...HORSE RACING IN BRITAIN The horse racing industry is often misconcepted as being expensive and puts animal cruelty on the line. However, media interest from groups such as Animal Aid has heightened this conception over the past few years and the levels of attendances have been down since the middle of this decade. Horse racing is a risky sport, in fact the most dangerous in the world for a sportsman but there are many rules and regulations in place to stop the sport from taking the lives of both the horse and human competitors but accidents do happen. Animal Aid actually record on their website the deaths of all the horses in the UK which I personally believe is not information the public want to know. Advantages: Fun and exciting day out

...For most of my life I have lived less than two miles from Newcastle Racecourse. Somehow, I had never been to a race meeting until a few years ago when I managed to wangle myself an invitation to a friend's company's hospitality marquee - needless to say, in keeping with many corporate events, I never saw a horse! At the next event I attended I actually managed to leave the tent (still clutching my G&T of course!) and saw a few races and since that day I have been hooked! I don't go to every meeting - probably just four or five a year and those of you who read my St Tropez opinion will know that a couple of weeks ago I went to the Ladies Day meeting. ...The answer is of course is when it's a zebra as you will discover in this great fun-filled family film. Racing stripes is about Stripes - a baby zebra who after being abandoned by a circus is rescued by a young girl (Hayden Panettiere) who aspires to be champion jockey, and her protective widowed father (Bruce Greenwood)who doesn't want to see her injured or killed like her mother before her. Stripes is then taken to live on their farm with various farmyard animals. As he grows up he dreams of becoming a famous racehorse (he doesn't realise that he is a zebra - just thinks he is a stripey horse) and wants to run in the biggest race of the year.
