Devilish film

Advantages: Scary and jumpy, with a great story
Disadvantages: It may be too scary for some people

The Exorcist is a horror film that is a favourite for many people. It was directed by William Friedkin and released in 1973. The film follows the possession and the attempted exorcism of a young girl, Regan MacNeil (Linda Blair). Regan’s poor health is originally blamed on her mother’s, Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn), recent divorce, but it soon becomes clear that demonic forces are at work. Her mother ends up seeking the assistance of two priests, ...
...in her bid to rid the demon from her daughter. The priests realise that they will have to use all their strength and convictions to defeat the demon and save Regan. This film is loosely based on an actual exorcism of a young boy in the early twentieth century. I thought that this was a really creepy and scary film, with some excellent make-up and special effects. It is worth noting that some scenes are very horrific and may upset some people of ...

There's a sting in this tale!

Advantages: Exciting, action-packed
Disadvantages: Bit too much for one film, flaws/holes in the plot

...as I had recently seen the third and first of the films, decided it was best to review them in order! Firstly a piece of advice, although I will try my absolute best not to plonk in any big spoilers here (with regard to the first film - this will be hard) I think it is best not to see this review until you've watched the first film. It should make sense, but it's always better to do things in sequence! I really enjoyed the first film, and so when ...
...- if you've not seen the first film, read this bit** Evelyn Carnahan (Rachel Weisz), the clumsy librarian and her brother, Jonathan found an unusual, star shaped item inside a tomb, decided to investigate and went on an exploring journey. On their way, they met Rick O'Connell (Brendan Fraser), a prisoner, who agreed to help in return for his freedom. But there were other Americans on a treasure hunt and between the two gangs they managed to awaken ...

Advantages: Tremendous Rip Roaring Horror
Disadvantages: Overpriced

How And Why Sleepless Was Made -------------------------------------------- Dario Argento started his working life on spaghetti westerns; his collaboration with Sergio Leone on Once Upon A Time In The West is possibly his best known monie of that genre. Argento diversified his work by focusing on things that interested him, namely horror. Argento enjoyed the fact that he could take audiences a step further than they wanted to go. His horror work ...
...There is no doubt that Sleepless is not Argento's best work, but it's a really good contender for a top five of his best. From the moment the movie starts, you feel the tension. The feelings that you have about the plot from the start are usually a good indicator of how a Giallo film will end; not predictable, as the story unfolds the things that initially you thought are dismissed only to return later. All this aside you don't have a clue to the ...

A film made in Hell

Advantages: its only a film
Disadvantages: is it?

The Exorcist (Directors Cut). I'm pretty sure that by now, most people would have heard about the Exorcist film, either Film, Dvd, Video or just from memories of parents. The later of this summary is what I'm basing my review on. I was one of many who stood outside the cinema in the pouring rain, of the first showing of this movie, at our local cinema in the early 70's. I thought it was quite funny at the time to listen to; Priests and Nuns outside ...
...it more. Yes at the time it was truly horrifying, and left a real chill down the spine, every time I heard a bird in our loft after that I was convinced it was the devil looking for another possession. But time moved on, and 100's of Horror films later, it all seemed a distant memory, and then I came across this DVD, the Directors Cut, it had me intreaged, what would be different and would I notice any difference. My son who is nearly 17 asked ...
