Overblown and gothic fun

Advantages: Brilliant performance by Gary Oldman
Disadvantages: Terrible performance by Keanu Reeves

Bram Stoker would have been amazed if he knew that the stories his mother told him while he was sick in bed, would grow into one of the biggest myths and moneyspinners of the 20th century. Coppola's film is a gothic, sumptuous and rather overblown version of the novel. As for 'faithful' - I don't remember a bit where Lucy runs through the garden wearing a red curtain only to be shagged senseless by a bison. Or the bit at the beginning where Vlad ...
...- faithful to the book my arse! Never mind. Gary Oldman is fabulous as Dracula - sexy, anguished, and with an accent you can't place but somehow it sounds ancient, steeped in grandeur and blood. He's quite stunning in the role and you do feel for him. (Not like the book at all really where the Count doesn't actually appear that much and when he does, he's a red-eyed stinky breathed monster). Dracula comes back to England because he sees a picture ...

He's Behind You... Again!

Advantages: Funny, scary at times, tension
Disadvantages: Lacks the atmosphere the first film had, unintetionally funny, becomes a bit silly

...crazed Michael Myers did on Halloween of 1978, after trying to kill teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) he seemingly met his end after being shot by his doctor (Donald Pleasance). However when Michael is nowhere to be seen it would seem that Halloween is far from over for Laurie and Doctor Loomis. Laurie is rushed to hospital after her ordeal with Michael whilst Doctor Loomis continues on in his hunt for Michael before more people are made ...
...her at the hospital… Halloween II is a direct sequel to 1978’s Halloween. Halloween II was released in 1981 but was set on the same night back in 1978 straight after Michael is shot. You’d think that three years on there might be some continuity issues but it seemed to me as though Rick Rosenthal had got everything right in this film, even it’s star Jamie Lee Curtis didn’t look as though she’d aged more than a day. If you’re planning on watching ...

Comedy, Horror and Romance all mixed into one great film

...English Moors seek refuge in an English pub where the locals typify a sinister and unwelcoming presence. The pub is named the ‘The Slaughtered Lamb Inn’ for a reason and the locals aren’t letting on. After their rest and not liking the eerie atmosphere that back packers leave with the only word of advice given to them saying ‘Stick to the path’. From that moment on there is a true sense of inevitable violent doom. After one is ripped apart the ...
...in the 80s, it is an astonishing piece of cinematic and special effects magic. Also understanding that the writer, John Landis, was only 19 years of age at the time of conceiving the ideas behind this film, it is definitely goes down in colt horror history. The characterisation is exceptional with quality actors of the genre. The main character, David Kessler, played by David Naughton is believable and compelling as he lives out the nightmare and ...

Tremors

Advantages: Good humorous movie with a silly creature
Disadvantages: a bit sloppy on the special effects

...as the reason for the tremors around the desert are unearthed, leading to one of the weirdest creatures ever to grace our screens. The acting is a bit questionable and the special effect team need to go back to school but if you don't take the movie as a true thriller/horror, more a comedy/thriller type, then this can be an entertaining movie all round. Would I recommend this movie….? Well yes, why not… It is entertaining if a little on the silly ...

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

Advantages: nice story
Disadvantages: very very very long!

In this film stars: Robert De Niro, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Hulce, Helena Bonham-Carter, Aidan Quinn, Ian Holm, John Cleese With Branagh humbly giving himself the main role of Victor Frankenstein. We see Victor growing up in a very english manor house, set in Geneva. His family take in an adoptee girl, Carter. The father is a doctor, and all is well, as Victor grows up and leaves for university to become a doctor himself. Whilst there he meets a fellow ...
...he is told about science being the only way to helping people, and recognises they are of the same mind which is, that a combination of Science and Philosophy is the better way. Cleese is ashamed of his earlier work, and wont say why. Unfortunately, Cleese dies ( im not saying how) and Branagh finally gets the chance to read his work. Motivated, and scared from his mother dying ( not saying how), Branagh sees to find a way to cheat death and bring ...
