Ruin this
Advantages: Read Opp Disadvantages: Read Opp
The ruins is a horror film that was released in 2008, directed by Carter Smith and starring Jonathan Tucker, Shawn Ashmore, Jena Malone, Laura Ramsey and Joe Anderson. The book was originally based on a Novel that was written by Scott Smith. I had the pleasure of watching this film, last week, and I was one of mixed feelings. At times this film was brilliant, a fresh new plot, which didn't have any ghosts, or villains, but at times it was hard to ... ...moments were the film slowed down. A great horror film should be one that has a constant flow to it, one that constantly keeps you on the edge of your seat. Plot: So the film starts of in a dark cold place, the viewers see a woman, who is trapped in a dark dungeon type area, one that looks more like a well, or a cave. She tries to call for help, but with no success, she has her phone with her but she can't seem to pick up a signal, then suddenly ...

The Ruins: An average gory flick
Advantages: Good acting and gore, original premise Disadvantages: Underdeveloped story and characters
...that it is a masterpiece. The acting is quite good and it's maybe the best thing about the movie, although the charachters were a bit underwritten. The plants were kind of an unusual horror villain, and it is for me a good variation on the human vs. nature theme. Some of the actions of the characters didn't ring true or believable, but, for gore enthusiasts, there are some fine scenes that can make even hardened horror fan cringe so it's worth checking ...

I cant hack watching it more than once.
Advantages: Tons of horror icons Disadvantages: Most of them get killed REALLY quickly!
Its a fairly basic plot, about the legend of a nasty axe killer way out in the bayous who is leither ong dead or never was real but thats not going to stop him claiming yet more stupid (sorry, innocent) victims. Any horror film that casts Robert Englund (the face behind horror icon Freddie Kruger!) then kills him in the opening 5 minutes before the opening credits have even run should be instantly viewed with nothing but suspicion. Tony Todd (Candyman, ... ...tour guide (his James Earl Jones voice impression is hysterical by the way, I don't know or care if he was trying to be funny but I was laughing at it). Sadly his role was all of 5 minutes long as well. More reasons for suspicion and quite rightly so. Mercedes McNab (AKA Harmony from Buffy & Angel, I had to look her up to see what I remembered her from but she gets semi-naked!), Marcus the token black guy (from Not Another Teen Movie) is filling ...

Narrowly missing death...or not...
Advantages: Entertaining thriller Disadvantages: Some confusing bits
...Larter returns from the first Final Destination as Clear Rivers and again gives a good performance bearing in mind the limitations to her role. I like her because she is not the usual perfect beauty that directors tend to pick, which makes her easier to identify with and therefore more realistic. I spent ages trying to work out where I had seen Michael Landes, who plays the part of Officer Thomas Burke. He has recently been on our screens in Love ... ...Having seen the first Final Destination, I watched this immediately afterwards, expecting it to be pretty average. There are a lot of similarities with the first one, so that I was left thinking I'd seen it all before, but on the whole, this was a compelling film that kept me on the edge of my seat even though I thought I knew what was going to happen. The pacing is great - the film flashed by in no time at all and the viewer isn't given a moment ...

A mediocre attempt at the mythological story
Advantages: slightly different slant to the Greek myth Disadvantages: never really manages to be more than an ok movie
...evil reign who worships the Minotaur as there God. When a group of people are no longer happy in worshipping there stone idol they mate there queen with a bull, and unleash a horror that we soon be there own downfall years later. Not heading the words of his father that he must stay hidden so he may one day receive the title as head of the village. Firstly the minotaur is nothing like it is portrayed in the legends but rather a humongous deformed bull with red eyes, that look like it is totally skinless. Secondly the king of Minos is black male, which this would not have been the case. The story focuses on the ancient village of Thens. Every five years or so, village youngsters are taken by force to the Minoan palace, and placed in the underground labyrinth to be a sacrifice ...
