Overblown and gothic fun
Advantages: Brilliant performance by Gary Oldman Disadvantages: Terrible performance by Keanu Reeves
Bram Stoker would have been amazed if he knew that the stories his mother told him while he was sick in bed, would grow into one of the biggest myths and moneyspinners of the 20th century. Coppola's film is a gothic, sumptuous and rather overblown version of the novel. As for 'faithful' - I don't remember a bit where Lucy runs through the garden wearing a red curtain only to be shagged senseless by a bison. Or the bit at the beginning where Vlad ... ...- faithful to the book my arse!
Never mind. Gary Oldman is fabulous as Dracula - sexy, anguished, and with an accent you can't place but somehow it sounds ancient, steeped in grandeur and blood. He's quite stunning in the role and you do feel for him. (Not like the book at all really where the Count doesn't actually appear that much and when he does, he's a red-eyed stinky breathed monster).
Dracula comes back to England because he sees a picture ...

The Omen Pentology (Box Set)
Advantages: Fantasically shot, great value horror package Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too focused and gory for the casual viewer
The Omen Pentology is definately a collection of top quailty horror films with convincing acting and great inovative camera techniques. That said the pentology is probably best left to the horror fans. People curious about the genre might find it a bit too focused and perhaps should start with more approachable films such as 28 days later. The films all have a different feel and angle but together form a definate collection and I would advise that ...

Recommended for all vampire movie lovers!!!!!
Advantages: great costuming, acting, script, plot, casting of characters, etc... Disadvantages: QUite a few things in Louis' story were changed
...when I heard about the Interview with the Vampire movie I was overjoyed and hunted down this DVD. It didn't diappoint me either; even though it changed quite a few of the details in the book. Brad Pitt played a great Louis. I could not imagine anyone else playing that role after seeing him in action. He got every single emotion right, from the malice and hatred for Lestat, to the undeniable love for his little Claudia the child vampire. Tom Cruise ... ...Louis portrayed him as in the novel when narrating his story. One of the scenes I remember the best was a little before they made Claudia into a child vampire, when Lestat danced around with the corpse of Claudia's mother. I was exactly the way I imagined Lestat acting.
Kirsten Dunst played a marvelous Claudia; which was what I thought was a very mature role for a child her age at that time; but she captured her character EXCEPTIONALLY well. The ...

The THING !!
Advantages: Very Scary and Bloody Disadvantages: Nothing
The THING.
Let me start by saying that if Kurt Russell had not been in this movie it probably would have been a so-so film. However he lifts the whole film, in my opinion.
The film is based on the novel by John W Campbell Jnr and is a remake of the original black and white movie made in 1951 called The Thing from Another World.

The dog it seems is not a dog and soon some of the scientists are not human at all. It seems there is a malevolent alien parasitic organism that has been discovered and then released by the Norwegians and it can take the form of any living thing. Firstly though it kills and absorbs its victim. If it makes it out of the frozen wastes all civilisation everywhere will become extinct.
The problem is how ...
