As weak as the water its named after
Advantages: Jamie Lee Curtis looking hot Disadvantages: the silly plot
Basically the plot is set in a school where Laurie Strode works and her son is also a pupil there, the whole school goes off to a camp but the son, his girlfriend, best friend and his girlfriend sneak away to stay behind inside the school leaving the school empty apart from them 5 and LL Cool J playing the security guard and token black guy to be terrorized by Myers. Why did Jamie Lee Curtis agree to be in this? She was good in number 1, whereas ... ...Lot's of things don't make sense. Like how Myers found her if she changed her name (to Keri Tate)? Was she still in Haddonfield? How does Myers get out of the bodybag? Those things really aren't designed to be opened from the inside. Why does no-one EVER shoot him in the head? It's just a huge spit on the 1st film. Each version getting gradually worse. Some of the action sequences are half decent, even the little nod to the film Aliens where Curtis ...

A PLACID HORROR
Advantages: Short and funny Disadvantages: Not really scary or original
...Film Only Review
Lake Placid tells the typical story of a small town plagued by an under water killer, but, is given a new look by the fact that this small town is located in the mountains, not the beach, making it very difficult for a shark to give them problems. However the killer I mention is not a shark, but a crocodile, and a big, big one to that. Lake Placid has to a witty script, by David E. Kelley , that contains some wonderfully twisted ... ...not the towns mysterious deaths can be related to a bear or a crocodile, when suddenly a bear comes charging out of the woods, before being eaten whole by the giant croc. Oh the hilarious, totally unoriginal sense of Irony. This sense of humour is something that runs through the script.
Even the characters are a quirky, unique lot that you wouldn't trust to protect a field, let alone an entire town, and thankfully the cast have done perfectly in ...

Running On Empty
Advantages: A 3-D bonanza (sort of) Disadvantages: Just cheap thrills
Friday the 13th Part 3 (3-D) (1982)
To refresh your memory again here is a short recap of previous events. If you have not watched the previous films then skip this paragraph to avoid spoilers. In the original we discover Mrs Voorhees to be the killer. The reason being that her child, Jason, died in the fifties as a result of careless camp counsellors who were making love instead of watching him. He drowned in Crystal Lake and the next year two ... ...we’re left with is basically Friday the 13th Part 2 with lots of long objects being waved at the camera. Stop sniggering, there’s none of that. Not in 3-D anyhow. Set just a couple of days after the previous film we have another batch of bright young things whose future acting careers involve roles like, Guard #1, male reporter and dorm member. This is not the cream of the crop. So I guess we’ll enjoy watching them die. The characters include the ...

Plenty of Blood, Not Enough Meat
Advantages: I’ll get back to you on that Disadvantages: Absolutely no story
Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981)
To refresh your memories here’s a little recap of the previous films events. If you’ve yet to watch it skip this paragraph to avoid spoilers. At Camp Crystal Lake, in 1957, a young boy drowned because the camp counsellors were busy making love instead of watching him. In 1958 two counsellors (I expect the same two) were brutally murdered leading to the camp being shut down. 21 years later another spate of killings befell ... ...survivor Alice discovered the murderer to be the young boy Jason’s mother, Mrs Voorhees, who after a drawn out struggle was decapitated. The film starts with one of the longest introductions I’ve witnessed. On some versions up to fifteen minutes long. It essentially just plays the end of the original. Then it moves on five years, and a new camp is to be opened on Crystal Lake, just a short walk from ‘Camp Blood’ of the original. A noticeably larger ...

Ding Dong, You’re Dead!
Advantages: A few nice effects Disadvantages: Predictable story, lacks atmosphere, weak humour
House (1986)
Roger Cobb (William Katt) is a successful author of trashy horror novels. After his aunt commits suicide he inherits her house and decides to move in and write a personal account of his experiences in the Vietnam War. After moving in he soon finds that things aren’t quite normal, seeing what he hopes are hallucination of monsters. Although he thinks something worse may be going on as his son disappeared at the house in unusual circumstances ... ...a huge fan, but thinks Roger’s going a little crazy, and so keeps an eye on him. There’s little more to say about this comedy horror, as most people can probably fill in the gaps up until the very end. What can I say about a film with the tagline ‘Ding Dong, You’re Dead’ (I’m not making this up). It’s supposed to balance scares and humour and is obviously influenced by The Evil Dead in some respects. While I did find myself laughing, it was normally ...
