three extremes, definately extreme...
Advantages: Three stories, very visual Disadvantages: Short, some didn't make sense
Three Extremes, certainly three short but strange horror movies by the Tartan Asia Extreme network, which probably do the best horror movies out there despite them being subtitled they have a great plot, great gory scenes and fantastic twists. I prefer the longer films, but anyway here is the three stories, and three extremes. Firstly one film, three extremes, each by a different director.
There is another film out three extremes 2. However I decided ... ...The film links in with the 3rd section within the DVD.
Dumplings - Directed by Fruit Chan (shorter version of a film)
Firstly lets say this is the 45 minute, well shorter version of the film dumplings. This films certainly makes you think, what? As soon as you see the red jelly substance, which is put in this womans dumplings, to make her look younger and refreshed. This shorter version shows the story of a former actress, Ching who becomes worried ...

She always gets a part
Advantages: Beautifully paced, acted, directed, shot Disadvantages: An acquired taste
...sits in on the film's audition which requires a female heroine in the main role. Not only would Aoyama be able to meet many women and ask them questions but he would also have access to all of their application material for further information. It seems like a highly efficient (if slightly creepy) way for Aoyama to find a new prospective wife; he reluctantly accepts. Soon, the applicants start flying in and it seems that Aoyama is spoilt for choice ... ...connected to her. When the audition day rolls around, he displays little interest in the other applicants some of which are very keen to get the part. But when Asami appears, his feelings are confirmed and soon asks her out to dinner. Asami is overjoyed with the attention he is giving her, delicate and complicated a flower that she is. It seems that Asami wants the same thing as Aoyama; companionship, but is Aoyama getting more than he bargained ...

Stylised Sci Fi/Crime Series from Takashi Miike
Advantages: Complex, Stylishly Made Japanese Crime Series Disadvantages: Very Complex and Filmed On A Low Budget. Disturbing.
MPD Psycho : Parts 1&2 - Japan -2000
MPD Psycho is a TV series by ultra prolific Japanese director Takashi Miike. Miike is famous for such films as Audition, Happiness OF The Katakuri's and Ichi The Killer.
MPD Psycho consists of six episodes. This DVD contains the first two. Each episode is 50-55 minutes long.
This is the third TV series that Miike directed and is loosely based on a Manga of the same name. Although credited to the original writer ... ...fiction version of Cracker. Honestly. MPD Psycho is one of the most difficult and downright odd TV series I have watched. It's a triumph of stylisation and rightly shows that even the lowest budget TV series can do something interesting. The DVD features easy to read subtitles but no language options just Japanese with subtitles. The sound is in Dolby 5.1.
There are no other features apart from an advert for 'The Maki Collection'. Sure buy this ...

Sick yet deep
Advantages: Great visuals, haunting story line and totally original Disadvantages: Very very very gory
This film (based on the manga anime series) takes you to tokyo rife with Yakuza and killings. The boss Anjo disappears with 3 million Yen and the second in commmand Kakihara vows to find him.
Kakihara is a machoist, enjoying every moment of each of his torture scenes where he plays god with peoples pain. His skewers penetrating cheeks, jaws, feet and many other parts of anatomy! He, after vowing to find Boss Anjo, is kicked out of the yakuza but ... ...story becomes mixed in with Ichi, a brainwashed killer, controlled by a retuired cop who has many problems, sexual need for death and killing.
The story although appears to be a pure blood bath in fact is very clever, deep and truly disturbing. The characters have a definitve influence on the sway of the plot and both dialogue and acting is fantastic.
The use of CGI however does not do the film justice. From buckets of very realistic blood poored ...

Ichi the Killer - fantastic film.
Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: Lags a bit here and there
...overall. The characters are superb, Ichi wasn't toooo well suited, but the acting was very good in my opinion.
Not for the faint-hearted I'm afraid, I hought it was worse that saw, very gory, very detailed. Torture, violence and rape. Loved the Japanese theme, you can get a taste of the culture too. In terms of photography and weird camera tricks ect. This is a good film also, wit lots of flashy bits, especially at the beginning. Absolutely great ...
