An excellent film with brilliant acting
Review of The Sorcerers (Wide Screen) by 666nekro

Advantages: Excellent Michael Reeves documentary
Disadvantages: The source print looks a bit rough in places

This is the director's (Michael Reeves) third feature film, not quite as entertaining as the superior Witchfinder General which was to be his fourth and final directorial effort. Boris Karloff (this being one of the last of his films too) stars as Professor Montserrat who has discovered how to control a persons' mind and sensations through hypnotism. He has high hopes of his discovery and dreams of fame and fortune. He and his wife are living in poverty. ... The Hammer Collection Box Set
Review of The Hammer Collection (Box Set) by spacavoy

Advantages: An aesthetically pleasing collection
Disadvantages: Some rather poor inclusions

...of classic Hammer films from the very good to...not so good. An aesthetically pleasing set for fans of the studio, or those wanting at least half of the titles. Features star favourites Peter Cushing, Raquel Welch, Ursula Andress and Christopher Lee (about whom there is an interesting documentary with 'Scars of Dracula'). The extra features vary greatly, the biggest ommission, in my opinion, is the total absence of subtitles for the hearing impaired. ...
...some for the first time, and completely uncut. My personal favourite was the inclusion of the 1965 film 'The Nanny' which stars a very chilling Bette Davis in a well scripted, and often overlooked role. Probably a tad overpriced for most, but new DVD versions of individual films are also available, so take a look at some of those if you don't want to commit yourself to a full collection. ... This game confused me somewhat.
Review of Saw 4 DVD by sumara

Advantages: Lots of gore and makes you think and figure things out.
Disadvantages: You need to watch it more than once to get all the details.

...is set out similarly to Saw 2 with the non-linnear time line that is greatly effective and adds to the wow factor. My favourite thing about this film is the sickness behind it, these films are not based on some psycho plucked from real life, its an everyday guy fantasising about how he'd exact revenge if given the chance. And he does it so well. ... Read review

The Original Driller Killer
Review of Frightmare by sghawken

Advantages: Pretty scary for a british movie
Disadvantages: Poor acting

...to be subjected too. Frightmare begins as it means to go on with the death of onetime Fawlty Towers star Andrew Sachs, killed after a visit to a funfair to see a clairvoyant. This opening scene was a shot in colour but later turned to black and white because the vision of gore you see was just too much for that moment in time. This event sees the condemning to prison of an unknown party, and at this point the movie moves forward from the 1950's ...
...Walker movies of this time, Frightmare offers the most striking vision with some of the worst acting. The memories of Frightmare really stayed with me for years after seeing it, and were given a stark reminder when I made my most recent return to this horror movie as part of a self imposed Pete Walker season. The story of Frightmare is incredibly slow moving, but this is not a criticism; because this slow delivery makes the terror at the end all ... Read review

Fun, Scary, and Delightfuly Twisted
Review of Scream (Wide Scream) by sharkrox707

Advantages: Its scary, shocking, and fun!
Disadvantages: Only really great the first you times you watch

Wow, what can one say about such a masterpiece, it could really be a center piece for all the other masters of horror out there. When we start in on a house, we learn that sometimes a wrong number requires a write answers, because all killers want some fun with there killing spree, so there are some real head games going on around here, and what is even worse is the ending that you never see coming! When Cindy Campbell learns that her mother's death ...
...he life becomes a living hell. Soon the killer comes straight for here, and with here father missing and the anniversary of her mother's death just around the corner has daddy gone insane? Or is it Randy the video clerk who knows just a little too much about how a real life murder would work out? You will just HAVE to watch especially if you are ready to be scared out of your mind! ...
