A Cult Classic, You''ll never forget!
Advantages: No Hollywood nonsense... Disadvantages: Can leave you disturbed
...myself watching many films in the wee small hours. The "Wicker Man" is a film I picked up cheeply and had never got round to viewing. I would not normally watch what is considered a horror film on my own, but I did and was surprised I hadn't seen this "gem" before now.
**The Basic Plot**
Sargaent Howie, played by (Edward Woodward) is called from the Scottish Mainland to investigate the disappearance of "Rowan Morrison"" a teenage girl on a mysterious ... ...so comes into contact with the islanders as they prepare for the May Day Festival. Their blatant disregard for christianity is amplified by the ruined Christian Churches and graveyards and what he sees as their hedonistic sexual practices and worship of the Phallic Symbol.
On investigation Howie starts to believe the young girl is not dead but being saved for sacrafice on May Day. His suspicions are aroused when he meets Lord SummerIsle (Christopher ...

A Stroke As Gentle As A Feather!
Advantages: The best "musical" I have ever seen Disadvantages: None at all
...So now I am re-listing the review with a few changes.
Oh what a wonderful day; after a stressful day at work I returned home to discover a small suspect parcel on my doorstep. I opened the package to get the biggest thrill of the month; inside my package was the new Wicker Man 3 Disc Collectors Edition DVD, something I never even knew was due for release.
The case is beautiful, a lovely shiny colour with an image from the movie emblazoned on the ... ...the box is not one but three discs. Disc 1 features the original theatrical release from 1974; with the original trailer. Disc 2 has the restored version or directors cut from the 2001 release, also contained an audio commentary from Christoper Lee, Edward Woodwood, and Robin Hardy. Also on Disc 2 is a documentary "The Wicker Man Phenomenon" with a 30 minute runtime and The Cult Of The Wicker Man, a 50 minute documentary with Mark Kermode. In digital ...

Paganism updated
Advantages: Unique and classic Disadvantages: Not for all horror fans
...in 1973 by Robert Hardy the wicker man is a chilling insight into ancient paganistic rituals. Set and filmed in the north Scottish island Summerisle, this film was somewhat controversial at the time of it's release and since then has become a cult classic amongst British horror fans.
The storyline follows Sgt Howie (Woodward) as a police officer from mainland Scotland who flies to Summerisle to investigate the dissapearance of a young girl. After ... ...is at it seems here, the villagers are suprisingly unhelpful or willing to even acknowledge the cause of the Sgt's visit, and the devout Christian is shocked and stunned to learn that the islands primary religion is Paganism.
When i first saw this film, i knew that it wasn't going to be your typical horror, it seems to play on the psychological aspect and the hope that the audience will put themselves in the position of the main character when creating ...

Never go here for a holiday...
Advantages: Superior horror movie Disadvantages: A bit too gruesome
'The Wicker Man' is probably the Scottish Tourist Board's most hated film!
This 1973 horror classic came out of an idea from the novel 'Ritual' by David Pinner. However, the film's director, Robin Hardy (whose first feature film this was, incredibly), and writer Anthony Shaffer, worked out the original script and plot.
Edward Woodward is the central figure in the film, as the middle-aged innocent of a policeman, Sergeant Neil Howie. His remit is ... ...and solve the disappearance of a young girl, Rowan Morrison.
Set on an island called Summerisle, 'The Wicker Man' begins deceptively mundanely, with Howie flying in, but that's about as normal as this film gets.
Howie's investigations soon hit a dead end, as he comes up against the reticent schoolteacher Miss Rose (Diane Cilento), an evasive librarian (Ingrid Pitt), and the magnificent Christopher Lee as you've never seen him before, as the liberated ...
