Night Watch
Advantages: Great film Disadvantages: nothing
Night Watch. The film is based around a prophecy. A prophecy of balance and that one day there will be 'one' who tips the balance and then the light or the dark will rule the earth protectors of the light fight against followers of the dark in order for control. They are supernatural beings who can enter the twilight and draw their power from there. Anton is a member of the nightwatch and it is he who will be the main character of this film. ... ...soon all hell on earth is breaking loose. Anton proves to have more power than anyone thought. The ending is as expected considering this is the first of a trilogy The special effects are very good and the plot never slackens right from the battle scenes set in 1342 right up until, well... the ending, no reveals sorry. the dialogue is in Russian with subtitles which does detract from the overall enjoyment. Apart from that this is a decent movie and ...

Stalker
Advantages: Good Film Disadvantages: None
...or consciousness) are guided by Stalker (symbolizing our desire, will and everlasting search of meaning) to the mysterious Zone (which may represent all our spiritual goals, meanings, struggles to achieve them and barriers in our path). Breathtaking and mesmerizing images and sounds, witty dialog and strong concept are the major virtues of this feature. Writer's monologues are among the most meaningful, thought-provoking and spiritual moments I ever ... ...structured and fully developed. Nevertheless, Stalker is an outstanding piece of art movie that puts its director among the few true cinema masters. "

The result of a downward spiral
Advantages: Completes the Ring story, to an extent. Disadvantages: Confusing as hell; just not scary.
...was a magnificent film, and Ring 2 a worthy successor. With Ring 0: Birthday comes a change of director, and a change of pace, and not necessarily for the better.
Set 30 years previous to the other two, the film has a confusing opening, where Sadako appears to be a relatively normal person in an acting troupe. The wife of the journalist killed by Sadako at Shizuko's demonstration (the flashback sequence from Ringu) has set out, determined to take ... ...away from the horror and onto the characters helps differentiate Ring 0: Birthday from its two siblings, but ruins the legacy of the series to a certain degree. For the astounding Ringu to finish like this is tragic at best. Buy only if you really want to own them all. ...

An introduction to exploitation
Advantages: A good introduction to exploitation films and the work of Jess Franco Disadvantages: But it might be too tame if you're already a fan of exploitation films
...two exploitation films directed by Jess Franco and released under Tartan's Grindhouse label. As such they're not masterpieces, or suitable for all tastes, but they do attract a fairly strong cult following and are definitely worth a watch if you're interested in seeing films that are a bit off the beaten path. This is apparently the second Jess Franco double bill released by Tartan although it's the only one I've seen (and was my introduction to ... ...can gather most fans of Jess Franco will just be glad to have these films on DVD and the quality is about as good as the films are ever going to get.
The DVDs have next to nothing in the way of extras. Devil's Island Lovers contains approximately 30 minutes of additional and alternate scenes which made up the more sexually and violently explicit French version of the film. These scenes are of poor sound and video quality and look like they were ...

Ring trilogy-brilliant!
Advantages: Very scary! Well directed and executed Disadvantages: Can seem a bit slow
These are some of the scariest films I have ever seen! I have seen the original Japanese versions and thought that these American remakes were amazing films in their own right. Deaths are occuring 7 days after watching a certain video but you never really see anyone get killed so the suspense and mystery are high which makes the films scarier. It plays on your imagination and builds up suspense very well for an american horror film. Some could say ... ...that this builds up the suspense even more and makes it much scarier! I think these films are well directed and executed and would reccommend anyone who hasnt seen them to buy this box set. Even though it is rated a 15, viewers older than this will be scared! ...
