You Can't Keep a Good Man Down

Advantages: Director Francis provides some nice visuals
Disadvantages: Tired, predictable and plodding

...entry into Hammer's long running Dracula saga broke box office records for the studio, at a time when the gothics were becoming deeply unfashionable. 'Dracula Has Risen From the Grave' however leaves one in no doubt as to why the Hammer star was fading, why gothic was out, and the only mystery in the picture is how it set the box office alight. As a character, 'Dracula' is pretty hot material, with crawling down walls, turning to mist, transforming ...
...drags the priest to Castle Dracula to not only prove the vampire is dead, but to conduct a further act of exorcism, and seal shut the castle doors. The Monsignor is forced to carry out the exorcism alone, the priest having been too terrified to continue, but halfway up the mountainside, the priest slips on ice, falls, cracks his head open, and the trickling blood finds it's way into the icy waters where Dracula lays dead...and damp. On tasting blood, ...

Amicus boxed set

Advantages: Good films, quite entertaining, a must for Hammer horror fans
Disadvantages: poor quality packaging even though it looks good

The Amicus Boxed set is a wonderful Collectors piece for any vintage horror fan. I particularly appreciate the shape of the box, although it is difficult to put on a shelf with other DVDs it is also a bit awkward to open and the CDs fall out. Which is really annoying. . The Boxed set includes: ...And now the screaming starts An extremely gothic film in which a virgin bride is brought ancestral home of a family with a curse upon it. The bride is ...
...stories in one format, as The mysterious Doctor Terror boards a train and tells the begins to read the tarot cards of the other 5 people in the train compartment. This film is definitive of Amicus style of film If you watch one watch this one. The House that dripped blood Another of Amicus multiple stories in one films the pretext is an investigator interviews the custodian of an old house and is told of the fates of its previous tenants. The star-studded ...

those brits and their great anthologies...

Advantages: great british anthology horror.
Disadvantages: none.

i just LOVE british anthology horrors, and "doctor terror's house of horrors" is no exception. starring horror greats peter cushing and christopher lee, "dr. t's" offers a group of spine-tingling tales guaranteed to please. five men are on a train when they meet a mysterious character, dr. terror. this gentleman shows these five horrible "things to come"...or have they already happened? the ending will surprise you. out of all the segments, i personally ...
...whose house is overrun by deadly vines, the one about a young man who thinks his wife may be a vampire (but is someone else just getting rid of the competition?), and the one starring christopher lee about a critic who causes an "accident" to happen to an artist who insulted him. the artist loses his hands and takes his own life as a result, but those hands just can't seem to stay inactive...yes, the idea has been touched upon before ("the beast ...

Do you believe in Evil...?

Advantages: Cushing and Lee at the height of their horrific powers. Splendid story. Excellent direction.
Disadvantages: The creature when fully revealed, but isn't on screen that long anyway.

...Horror, than Hammer were at the time. A top-notch piece of British film-making. THE FILM While putting the finishing touches to a fantastically creepy painting, Anthropologist Emmanuel Hildern (Peter Cushing) is visited by a fellow man of science. Hildern recounts a haunting tale of his discovery of a highly advanced skeleton, found at a lower level than Neanderthal man, in Papua, New Guinea. The remains, were brought back to England, and sequestered ...
...he witnessed flesh forming on the ancient bone. He removed the digit and his experiments on it lead him to believe that what he had in fact discovered, were the ancient remains of something unimaginably evil. The combination of science and the 'supernatural' has always been a winning formula and THE CREEPING FLESH uses this to the full. Pictures with a similar theme include; The Mummy (1959), The Blood Beast Terror (1967), Quatermass and the Pit ...
