A Design For Death [Film Only]
Advantages: Memorable deaths, good performances and special effects Disadvantages: Some dodgy dialogue, a few inconsistencies
...explodes. Their trip to the final destination delayed but not terminated - as the teenagers find out, there is no cheating death. The opening scene at the airport is effective, and ensures Final Destination won't be shown as flight entertainment. The deaths are well executed (if you'll excuse the pun). If it's not the thought behind them - which will get the guessing games going - then it's the timing that can catch you out. However, there is inconsistency ... ...stuff thrown around already. Final Destination is strong in the special effects department. Computer trickery can be evident, but it's not as if these effects stand out like a sore thumb. It's not entirely the works of computers however, and when something is evidently fake, there is humour with horror - something which the film manages to mix successfully on more than this one occasion. Despite being set in New York, there are a couple of clues, ...

Better than the first?
Advantages: It's so amazingly sexy Disadvantages: The pregnant lady annoys me =P
...which I like better between Final Destination 2 and the original. I LOVE ALL the Final Destination movies, for many reasons. One, I adore horror movies! They entertain me the most. I can sit and watch horror movies such as Saw and such and laugh as people get tortured and die, its brilliant! Its so thrilling! The thing I love the most about the Final Destination series is that the creators seem to share the same sense of humor as me! I love it; it's ... ...all jokingly. In regards to Final Destination 2, I really enjoy the way everybody seems to connect to the victims of the first movie. And of course, Clear Rivers is present too. This kind of connection isn't apparent in the third and fourth movies, which makes them a little less interesting. If you have a sick sense of humor like me, go ahead and watch this. But I suggest watching the first one first! Yum, dead people. Delicious. Sorry, did I say ...

Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Advantages: Scary from the beginning Disadvantages: The cute guy dies!
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre follows a group of teenagers taking a road trip through Texas in the 70's. However, when they come across a young woman walking along a deserted road and pick her up, they soon realise something is wrong with her. Not long after, she shoots herself, leaving the group scared and confused to say the least, but little do they realise, their ordeal has only just begun. Coming across an isolated house seeking help, the group ... ...massacre scene. One by one, the youths suffer horrendous deaths in this gruesome remake of the classic horror movie that was origionally banned from cinema in the 70s. I absolutely loved this film, it was a true horror story that was well acted by a young cast. This film had some of the most brutal death scenes i have even witnessed in a horror movie and is just as much disturbing as it is terrifying. I definately reccommend this movie to horror ...

Farewell to the flesh!
Advantages: More back story to the original Disadvantages: A tad predictable
...times into a mirror, the Candyman comes to take her back to hell with him.
In various parts of the film we get some more of the back story behind the Candyman, we see him being murdered in the field by the mob of locals in revenge for him "defiling" the slave owner's (Annie's relative) daughter. It turns out that they had a daughter, who was Annie Tarrant's great grandmother, leading to the whole situation where Annie must go back to the slave quarters ... ...mind there is a third Candyman film, which will confuse the whole issue entirely!
The film featured some very effective music which built up the tension in the movie, and led to you actually caring about the teacher, and her pupils at the conclusion.
Directed by Bill Condon (the man who directed Ian McKellen in Gods and Monsters in 1998), who does a decent job, considering this was his first real voyage into the world of cinematic horror since ...

remake/remodel
Advantages: in colour rather than colourised Disadvantages: lacks the originals bite
...zombies have been awakened from the dead and are on a relentless killing and eating binge. Re-make of the 1968 George Romero classic.
Filmographies, Theatrical Trailer, Making Of, Directors Commentary,Region 2
I enjoyed this film when I first saw it in the early 90's - the main reason for this was that I saw it at a horror festival, it was directed by Tom Savini (FX guru) and it was in colour.
Watching it again 15 years later and after seeing ... ...like a missed opportunity. Also the fact that the main character in the original was black and the film was also seen as a comment on the social landscape of the late 60's neuters this remake somewhat as there is no longer any "message" or "comment" to make. As with the Dawn of The Dead remake the message has to be ditched as it is no longer relevant to the time the remake was made. But whereas the Dawn Of The Dead updates and reimagines the original ...
