Revenge is a dish best served cold
Advantages: Charlie Sheen, sweet actress who plays the secondary role Disadvantages: Rubbish story, dreadful eighties fashion, weak acting
...a car race instigated by the gang. Keri is reluctantly entangled with the gang leader, Packard, when new boy Jake appears and she begins to fall for him, much to Packard's disgust. Then a ghostly car appears in town - the driver is never seen, but it is obviously a challenge to the gang. But one by one, the gang members are killed off. Can the sheriff work out who is doing the killing before it is too late? And is Keri in danger?
This film was made ... ...it because Charlie Sheen had the leading role. Over twenty years later, I watched it again out of pure nostalgia. Unfortunately, time has not been kind, and has changed a film that was decidedly average in the first place and made it horribly old-fashioned, as well as looking cheap and tacky. Ah well. It does have some saving graces. Charlie Sheen is the main saving grace, simply because he looks good - or should I say looked good back then - and ...

Call the devil on 666
Advantages: Fun, good pace Disadvantages: Rubbish acting and script
...is apparently a sequel to 976 Evil, which was made in 1988 (976 Evil refers to the telephone number 976 666). I haven't, however, seen the first film, nor do I think it is necessary - if there are any references to a previous case, I didn't notice them. However, as part of the film revolves around Night of the Living Dead and It's a Wonderful Life, you will enjoy the connection a lot more if you've seen the original films - director Jim Wynorski ... ...There are no special features with the disc. I am therefore reviewing the film only
There is so much wrong with this film. The film looks as though it was made on a budget; the sound quality is rubbish, the sets are poor and monotonous, the script is weak, no-one can act and the plot is laughable. Yet somehow, it all manages to come together to work well as a light-hearted horror - the sort that is full of cliches, but is still entertaining. It ...

It's All In The Eyes
Advantages: Chilling view of an American hero Disadvantages: Very bad transfer to DVD
...the UK as Massacre Mansion, Mansion Of The Doomed is one of those commonly available movies that nobody seems to have seen. When VIPCO revived sales in the early 1990's one of the first releases was Massacre Mansion which had the delightful image of a hand clutching eyes on the front cover. This release by low budget movie company Digital Entertainment Ltd, is a sad effort, featuring absolutely no preservation or special features. The imagery has ... ...big issues to contend with Mansion Of The Doomed is a pretty good horror offering with credible performances from both Basehart and Graham in leading roles.
Made on a shoestring budget, a fact that is fairly evident from the first few minutes of viewing; I guess this could also be the reason why the movies quality has deteriorated so badly. While nothing wobbles or is taped together there are a limited number of filming locations featured in the ...

In its own way a horror classic
Advantages: Great locations, dreamlike narrative, great villain, memorable characters Disadvantages: Lame effects (for the most part), looks dated
...of the modern horror film.
Phantasm has a lot going for it - a truly memorable villain (the eponymous Tall man), decent characters (with the best being the king of one liners - Ice cream salesman, Reggie Bannister - as himsel), great settings ( a mausoleum) and enough gore to satisfy gore hounds). All of this, combined with a dream like narrative and frequent (sometimes highly confusing) plot twists, add up to a highly enjoyable horror outing. Of ... ...young director (Don Coscarelli) and was made in the late 70s, there are some plot holes, bad acting and lame effects. In my opinion however, this adds to the enjoyment factor of the film and puts many (if not all) modern efforts to shame.
All in all one of my favourite horror films from the golden era of true horror and infinitely superior to most of the sequels (except II)

nostalgic viewing
Advantages: short Disadvantages: seems longer
"Hoax (Stephen Geoffreys), the nerdy teen hero of 976-EVIL, spends most of his time envying his super-cool, biker cousin, Spike (Patrick O'Bryan), when he's not being bullied at school or oppressed at home by his religious fanatic mother. Things take a radical turn when Hoax begins calling a toll-free phone number that provides daily \"horrorscopes,\" and he becomes possessed by a demonic force that enters his mind and body via the telephone line. ... ...him."
No extras to speak of except a picture gallery.
I saw this film on its release in 1987 - I rented it out from the video shop mainly because it starred Evil Ed from Fright Night and was the directorial debut of Robert Englund (Freddy Krueger) - it also been covered extensively in an old horror mag of the time called Fear.
I loved it back then although I felt it dragged towards the end and the effects became a bit cardboard and cheap at the ...
