Advantages: Fun, good pace
Disadvantages: Rubbish acting and script

I haven't, however, seen the first film, nor do I think it is necessary - if there are any references to a previous case, I didn't notice them. Review of Mansion Of The Doomed (DVD)

In its own way a horror classic

Advantages: Great locations, dreamlike narrative, great villain, memorable characters
Disadvantages: Lame effects (for the most part), looks dated

Phantasm has a lot going for it - a truly memorable villain (the eponymous Tall man), decent characters (with the best being the king of one liners - Ice cream salesman, Reggie Bannister - as himsel), great settings ( a mausoleum) and enough gore to satisfy gore hounds).
