Humanity... barbaric?
Advantages: Gore, Good storyline, social commentaries Disadvantages: animal cruelty is not needed.
Gory... gross... barbaric... and brutal. Some scenes in this film were really controversial. For example, the infamous turtle slaughter scene (especially as this actually happened and the turtle was real). It was these animal cruelty scenes that i thought were disgusting... ...however... "I wonder who the real cannibals are?" Thats the reason i like this film. The two tribes were cannibalistic but it was the behaviour of those making the documentary ... ...the tribes were acting kind of docile, in order to make a good documentary to win some awards, they set fire to their huts, rape the women, and generally exploit them... for the sake of entertainment. Therefore is it not inevitable that the cannibals will get their revenge!!??! The social commentary behind this film is great... should we not look at the behaviour of the people closer to home before we try to judge those we do not know.... This movie ...

The Phantom Of Death
Straight on to Shameless' second DVD release a little known movie called The Phantom Of Death AKA Off Balance (Un Delitto Poco Comune as its known in its native Italy). Scarcely seen in the UK on its release back in 1988 to some degree this is the first proper release the movie has had in UK shores. Piano virtuoso Robert Dominici (Michael York) is much loved and famous face in Italy, but when his girlfriend ... ...guess you would classify The Phantom Of Death as Giallo, but unlike most its blatantly apparent whom the killer is in this movie. York as Dominici is a man troubled by a rare illness that causes him to age heavily and beyond his ears, so as the movie progresses we see him age from his mid thirties to a ninety year old man, obviously a little bit annoyed he takes his anger out on people that bother him; although beyond that there is not a great deal ...

Hot Diggety!
Advantages: Good film - if you don't expect too much Disadvantages: Could be a lot better.
The House on The Edge Of The Park is one of the Vipco Screamtime Collection, a collection of previously banned films. Banned from where I'm not sure as I have seen far worse things in modern cinema.
House....or La Casa Sperduta Nel Parco to give it it's equally snappy Italian title is directed by Ruggero Deodato who I am not familiar with, despite my love of these films, although he did direct Cannibal Holocaust which by all accounts is a true video ... ...We then jump to the present time where Alex and his friend Ricky (Giovanni Lombardo Radice) work in a garage. They are just getting ready for a night out 'Boogying' (yes this film really shows it's age at times) when a young couple Tom (Christian Borromeo) and Lisa (Annie Bell) pull up at the garage asking for help with their car. Alex is unwilling to interrupt his night out to help but soon changes his tone when he realises the pair are off to a ...

Let's go into the Amazon for a timeless classic
Advantages: a timeless classic that makes you wonder about the role of media Disadvantages: movie is 30 years old so techniques aren't as fine as nowadays
...attached to such ideas. Cannibal holocaust was a long time controversial movie for various reasons. The forementioned realism in combination with shocking images, some explicit violent scenes make this uncensored version so unique. Cannibal Holocaust is a perfect example of how budget horror can change the course of filmmaking. In Japan for example this movie was for a long time second to ET as the most succesfull production ever in Japan. Thsi last ... ...back in those days. Although Cannibal Holocaust is in fact an Italian movie this doens't have to be an obstacle at all. All of the actors were students from the NY actings school. Duddero picked some anglo-italian actors who could speak italian (to be able to publish it in Italy, the law obliged him to this). The actors themselves deliver an outstanding performance in this groundbreaking movie. Although they were unexperienced at the time they deliver ...
