A 1956 style 'Iron Man'?
Advantages: Lon Chaney, Casey Adams, great 1950s LA location footage Disadvantages: Looks low budget and a bit creaky, but so what, it's good
...ongoing deadpan voiceover narration throughout the film by Police Lieutenant Richard Chasen which seems to have been very much inspired by then-current popular police TV series 'Dragnet'. In San Quentin prison, notorious 'Butcher' Benton has been locked up for robbery and murder. His lawyer, Paul Lowe, is berating him for double-crossing fellow thugs Joe and Squeamy by having taken all of a large sum of stolen money for himself and hiding it, so ... ...about to go to the gas chamber. During their conversation it is revealed that Lowe the lawyer is crooked - he planned the heist and hired Butcher and his 'associates' to carry it out, and then stitched Butcher up and made him the fall guy. 'I'll have the satisfaction of knowin' that none'a you three crumbs is gonna spend it,' says Butcher, and continues 'I'm gonna kill you, Squeamy and Joe.' Lowe reminds him of his date with the gas chamber the next ...

Dead Gory
Advantages: Well written, tense, black humour, make up and effects, Davina McCall(!) Disadvantages: Violent and very gory, a little padded in places
...format.
3. Parts of Dead Set are pretty gruesome, so if you’re of a nervous disposition you may not even want to read the rest of this review, never mind follow any of the links at the end.
Not Ideal Boyfriend Material
How’s this for a nightmare scenario? You’re a lowly female member of the production team on Big Brother. No no, that’s not it. There’s more. Not long ago you were engaged in a passionate clinch with Danny, your new almost-boyfriend, ... ...above scene appears early in Dead Set, a zombie thriller by Charlie Brooker, who writes a humorous column in The Guardian and also writes and presents TV programmes including Screenwipe. The original idea for the story came, surprisingly, from watching an episode of “24”, the American thriller series starring Kiefer Sutherland. In one of his Guardian columns Brooker wrote:
"The idea for my TV show Dead Set (in which zombies attack the Big Brother ...

He's Behind You... Again!
Advantages: Funny, scary at times, tension Disadvantages: Lacks the atmosphere the first film had, unintetionally funny, becomes a bit silly
...crazed Michael Myers did on Halloween of 1978, after trying to kill teenager Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis) he seemingly met his end after being shot by his doctor (Donald Pleasance).
However when Michael is nowhere to be seen it would seem that Halloween is far from over for Laurie and Doctor Loomis. Laurie is rushed to hospital after her ordeal with Michael whilst Doctor Loomis continues on in his hunt for Michael before more people are made ... ...her at the hospital…
Halloween II is a direct sequel to 1978’s Halloween. Halloween II was released in 1981 but was set on the same night back in 1978 straight after Michael is shot. You’d think that three years on there might be some continuity issues but it seemed to me as though Rick Rosenthal had got everything right in this film, even it’s star Jamie Lee Curtis didn’t look as though she’d aged more than a day. If you’re planning on watching ...

The Dead Zone : A dark portrayal of one man's misery

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Some time during the 1970s (possibly the early 1980s), I read Stephen King's book "The Dead Zone", and ... ...me laugh a little at the way some of the conversation was written (I believe Stephen King did intend those parts to be amusing). Overall, I didn't understand the book too well as I found it rather verbose in parts, and felt it kept drifting away from the plot to the point where I lost it altogether.
In the early to mid-1990s, I went through a phase of buying a lot of videos of feature films, and "The Dead Zone" was one of them. It was a second-hand ...
Stunning Swedish Vampire Love Story
Advantages: Fantastic story, brilliant characters, great acting a subtle absorbing love story Disadvantages: Nothing
Let the right One in has been something of a sleeper hit on the indie scene, a Swedish film about a 12 year old vampire, it sounds in theory a bit soft, but it's not at all. The film begins following the weak incredibly blonde 12 year old Oskar as he plays in front of mirror pretending to stab somebody, the scene is oddly reminiscent of Taxi Drive and De Niro's Travis Bickle in the sense that both are acting out the person they want to be rather ... ...film convinced the author of Let the Right One in, John Ajvide Lindqvist, that Alfredson understood the tone and direction the film needed to go in to make the successful translation to screen. Alfredson's direction is brilliant in this film, he allows the film to pace itself and doesn't set it up with gory killings or other special effects unless they have a real impact on the story. The story is slow paced and character based, the longing shots ...
