Zombie Holocaust
In 2005, my sister Claire and I decided to begin watching horror films. Fed up with the recent wave of sadistic, American slasher movies, we opted for something a little more exotic: the J-horror and Italian horror scenes. We had seen the Ring, the Grudge, Dark Water, The Beyond and so on, but wondered if delving deeper into the realms of weird, horror cinema would give us the 'absurd' high we were craving.
To begin with, let me ... ...Absolutely hysterical, especially the goriest zombie death scene on the beach – realism loses whatever little grip it had on this film. Finally, another classic dreadful moment is the much-quoted ‘The patient's screaming disturbing me, performed removal of vocal chords’, which he removes by reaching no further than her tongue with a pair of tweezers and removing what looked to be something the size of a small tooth with relative ease. The similarities to Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds are evident - conceptually, Birds of Prey is roughly about the same idea. Sadly, in the hands of a far less visionary director, and with a far smaller budget, Birds of Prey is unlikely ... ...Heel and saves the day. Birds of Prey plays roughly to this formula. The setting is slightly unusual - the action takes place in Spain rather than the USA - but otherwise things play to a tried and tested formula. Events start out on a small scale and then quickly escalate until they've suddenly got out of hand. There are those who disbelieve, rapidly persuaded otherwise when they see the problem with their own hands. And then there are the innocents; ...
Advantages: All zombie fans will love this. Disadvantages: The films dub is a little off, but who cares when there's zombies involved.
...yet to see all the zombie features.. so I'm a little slow - bite me ;^) This is one that has been in the back of my brain on my must watch list for a long time. Up until I recently saw the film, I suppose I was a little sceptic to it being in any way as entertaining as some of the brilliant Romero films (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead).. But I was pleasantly surprised at how scary and gore-tastic it was. The fantastically ...
Advantages: gripping, haunting images Disadvantages: not enough blood
