a great family film

Advantages: funny and a must-see
Disadvantages: may not be suitable for younger children

...and although I do enjoy the Rick Moranis remake, I do adore this version. Steve Martin is brilliant in the newer one, but Jack Nicholson rivals him for comedy performance in the original. Behind the comedic plot of a giant-talking-man-eating plant that needs more meat as it grows bigger and bigger, the story is rather sad, as poor Seymour tries his best to satisy Audrey ll (the plant) and the girl of his dreams Audrey. A few laughs are definate with ...

More Atmosphere Than Modern Horror

Advantages: Really challenging psychologically
Disadvantages: No special features

...the pleasure park…… Carnival Of Souls is 45 years old (at the time of writing) it’s shot in black and white, but unlike many other movies of the time it looks older than it actually is. The acting is edgy at best, and on initial gut instinct you cannot help but ask why the hell your watching this awful film. Watching Carnival Of Souls I can only imagine to be like I night on acid; it messes with your perception and your senses. While Mary is going ...
...psychological journey with Mary. What Carnival Of Souls lacks in special effects, and general viewing delight it doubles up in psychological terror. I can quite honestly say this is the only older horror movie that affects me in any way. Its effect time, after time, after time does not diminish; it just grows in intensity. The most alarming part of the movie is the ending! It has a very modern final end that comes at you like a bolt from the blue. ...

Getting Married can be Deadly

Advantages: light hearted, spine tingling romp with the ever creepy Bela Lugosi
Disadvantages: if you like your horror with gore and edge of your seat terror, forget it

~~~Background~~~ In the late 30’s and early 40’s, cinema was entering into a heyday with a multitude of quality films, scripts, and actors entertaining throngs brought in by radio and magazine advertisements exhorting people to plan a night out to the cinema and to come in out of the rain and cold to their local cinema and so on. It did not much matter what film they were playing; cinemas were portrayed as exciting places to go for glamour, excitement, ...
...indeed as they swept up the red carpeted aisles! Cinema was an experience, and the best script writers, directors, and producers knew how to exploit the image in order to grab and keep audiences returning for repeat screenings. One such ploy was to be able to splash the name of a well known and popular star in huge letters across the marquee. One such favourite from the decade previous was Bela Lugosi. Best known for his terrifying portrayal of Count ...
...as the "Death Note". The Death Note's instructions claim that if a person's name is written within it while picturing that person's face, that person shall die.
