The Omen Pentology (Box Set)

Advantages: Fantasically shot, great value horror package
Disadvantages: Maybe a bit too focused and gory for the casual viewer

The Omen Pentology is definately a collection of top quailty horror films with convincing acting and great inovative camera techniques. That said the pentology is probably best left to the horror fans. People curious about the genre might find it a bit too focused and perhaps should start with more approachable films such as 28 days later. The films all have a different feel and angle but together form a definate collection and I would advise that ...

Cute, Clever, Mischievous, Intelligent, NOT.

Advantages: there's lots of scenes with Cute Gizmo in!
Disadvantages: there is none!!!

...obviously I was wrong. Also Gremlins is a great DVD but I watched it about 1 month ago, and could not review it due to the fact that I had a massive pile of Books to review. Anyway those reasons aren't really reasons, they are excuses... I would have reviewed this yesterday, although my heart was not into it... the reason is that 3 days ago my grandma died unexpectedly. She was healthy for all we knew, but she had a minor heart attack so my heart ...
...Billy breaks a rule and Gremlins spur from all over the place... The gremlins becomes the bullies and bully poor cute Gizmo. All kids would cry at that bit. But what will happen after? Will Gizmo be happy again? Will the gremlins die? What havoc will they cause? Would Gizmo leave? Or will he die? I shall not answer these questions, but you must be eager to find out. There are 2 different covers, there's the one that you would find nowadays which ...

A unique spin on old formula.

Advantages: Looks gorgeous, soundtrack is amazing, creatures are memorable.
Disadvantages: May be too dark for some.

A unique spin on the Alice in Wonderland formula, this deeply personal work from Guillermo del Toro is a wonderful mix of fantasy, horror, fairy tale and of course drama. The scenes of an innocent young girl, becoming engulfed in the politics of the aftermath of the Spanish Civil War complement the more fantastical elements as Ofelia gets visitations from a mysterious faun. Del Toro fills the screen with his imaginative richly detailed visuals and ...
...Baquero. Not since Jodie Foster's turn in Taxi Driver have I been so impressed with a young girl's mature acting skills. Hopefully its a star in the making. In the meantime we can rejoice that a filmmaker like Del Toro continues to create these original and fantastical movies. The Hobbit is looking very promising indeed. ...

unknown masterpiece

Advantages: strong plot, excellent performances
Disadvantages: subtitles

The devil's backbone - Guillermo Del Toro. I first got into Guillermo's work having watched Pan's labyrinth. How ironic it was that that was his most recent work, and I worked from it, backwards to his humbler beginnings. Guillermo is possibly better known for his work on Blade 2, and also cult classic, Hellboy. His passion is definitely for fantasy, and having watched Pan I simply adored his style, so immediately went to my local HMV and got them ...
...I received a copy of the Devil's Backbone for only seven pounds. What the critics said - "Magnificent performances all round. An intimate and captivating ghost story" - Hot Dogs Mark Wyatt. "Breathtaking. Contains more substance and style than a dozen Hollywood movies" - Empires Colin Kennedy "A gutsy, first-rate, full blooded ghost story, as elegant as it is brilliantly realised" - Total films Simon Crook. Praise indeed, but is it worthy of ...
