Creepy as Hell
Advantages: Superb musical score, hugely atmospheric, powerfully unsettling, simple but effective plot Disadvantages: None
...of tension and suspense. In the hands of a lesser director, The Fog would have been just another generic horror film, (see the execrable 2005 remake if you don't believe me) but Carpenter instead manages to create an oppressive and unsettling film with his mix of eerily-lit shots, brooding off-screen menace and his trademark pulsing synths that ebb and flow throughout, gradually building up anxiety in the viewer on an almost subconscious level. The ... ...beacon and driving it onto the rocks, causing crew to drown before plundering the ship of gold and using it to establish the town. The local church houses a huge gold crucifix fashioned from the supposedly ill-gotten gold, and its curator, Father Malone, is a descendent to the head conspirator and town founder. On the hundredth anniversary of the shipwrecking a strange luminous fog begins to envelop the town, and strange figures with glowing eyes ...

As weak as the water its named after
Advantages: Jamie Lee Curtis looking hot Disadvantages: the silly plot
Basically the plot is set in a school where Laurie Strode works and her son is also a pupil there, the whole school goes off to a camp but the son, his girlfriend, best friend and his girlfriend sneak away to stay behind inside the school leaving the school empty apart from them 5 and LL Cool J playing the security guard and token black guy to be terrorized by Myers. Why did Jamie Lee Curtis agree to be in this? She was good in number 1, whereas ... ...Lot's of things don't make sense. Like how Myers found her if she changed her name (to Keri Tate)? Was she still in Haddonfield? How does Myers get out of the bodybag? Those things really aren't designed to be opened from the inside. Why does no-one EVER shoot him in the head? It's just a huge spit on the 1st film. Each version getting gradually worse. Some of the action sequences are half decent, even the little nod to the film Aliens where Curtis ...

You wish they hadn't bothered
Advantages: none at all Disadvantages: littered with plotholes
...electrocution would have killed him beyond any shadow of a doubt. This is the 1st Halloween film to end showing us Myers is still alive. Every other film has either shown him dead or locked away or impossibly trapped. This film was dire. (this review also appears on dooyoo) ...

Happy Halloween!
Advantages: A timeless classic of a Teen Slasher film Disadvantages: None that I can think of
With today being Halloween I thought that I'd write a nice topical review of one of my favourite horror films of all time, this of course being John Carpenter's 'Halloween', a film that I'm sure most of you have seen by now given that it tends to be shown on one channel or another pretty much every year. Tonight the film can be found on BBC1 at a quarter to midnight, so for those of you that have not yet seen the film then there is no excuse not ... ...That is until one cold Halloween night in 1963 when Michael Myers, a six year old Haddonfield resident picks up a kitchen knife before proceeding to go upstairs and brutally murder his older sister of 17. Coming home from a night out, Michael's parents then find him standing outside with the knife still in his hand and a clown mask covering his face looking ever the guilty culprit. As a result of Michael's actions, he is sentenced to Smith's Grove ...

The quintessential 'Slasher'

Halloween is an American Independent horror film which was made in 1978. The film centres around events occuring in the fictional midwestern town of Haddonfield, Illinois on Halloween night.
The film is directed by John Carpenter, and also co-written by him along with Debra Hill.
At the beginning of the film it is Halloween night in 1963 and a six year old Michael Myers butchers his seventeen year old sister ,Judith, to death with a carving knife. ... ...major problem is that on Halloween night in 1978, exactly fifteen years on from his previous murder, Michael escapes from the vicinity because of lax supervision. Michael heads for Haddonfield with murderous carnage in mind.
Loomis is well aware of what kind of things that Myers will be looking to do and exactly where he is wanting to go, and therefore sets about pursuing him. Predictably enough Loomis heads straight for Haddonfield to alert the ...
