The THING !!

Advantages: Very Scary and Bloody
Disadvantages: Nothing

The THING. Let me start by saying that if Kurt Russell had not been in this movie it probably would have been a so-so film. However he lifts the whole film, in my opinion. The film is based on the novel by John W Campbell Jnr and is a remake of the original black and white movie made in 1951 called The Thing from Another World. An American research team are in the Antarctic when one day there world is turned upside down. Firstly with ...
...when things start happening around the base. The dog it seems is not a dog and soon some of the scientists are not human at all. It seems there is a malevolent alien parasitic organism that has been discovered and then released by the Norwegians and it can take the form of any living thing. Firstly though it kills and absorbs its victim. If it makes it out of the frozen wastes all civilisation everywhere will become extinct. The problem is how ...

He's Behind You!

Advantages: Nail-biting tension, excellent villain in Michael
Disadvantages: Drags in the middle, very dated

...and over again. Halloween is rated an 18 however the film doesn’t revolve around gore like the horror films of today do, instead Halloween makes it’s mark by centralising around tension and the sheer terror that Michael Myers brings to the town of Haddonfield. Michael Myers has an eerie onscreen presence, even when he’s not actually in a shot. His presence echoes throughout the film with the use of shadows and reflections that means that even when ...
...of gut wrenching gore however Halloween remains a successful horror film based on the atmosphere that it evokes, it manages to be genuinely frightening without a hint of bloodshed to be seen. This is a really jumpy film and there are many unexpected (and expected) moments throughout which leave the film understandably predictable but the journey is very unpredictable. It’s one of those films where you find yourself shouting at the scream, urging ...

Ghosts of Mars...what a good idea

Advantages: Average Action
Disadvantages: Everything Else

Poor! Yes, John Carpenter is usually a good director, with films under his belt such as Vampires, The Fog, The Thing and Christine. But Ghosts of Mars seriously lets him down. I don't know that its his fault, but i generally thought the film was disapointing, considering i like him as a director, and Jason Statham as an actor. The concecpt of the film to begin with is a bit obscure, as with Snakes on a Plane, it doesn't take a rocket scientist ...
...to be about. Thats right!! Ghosts on Mars....hmmm plausable or not? Somehow i don't think so. The film doesn't even enter the realms of fantasy, and only just crawls over the line into Science Fiction, from being generally poor. Possibly one of the only saving points of the film is the action scenes, however these are still not the best, but seem good in comparison with the rest of the film as a whole. I can't see this film gaining cult status ...

YOU KEEP A KNOCKING BUT YOU CAN'T COME IN

Advantages: A HUGE CLASSIC
Disadvantages: NO SEQUEL

...Where do I begin. Christine is a gorgeous 1958 red Plymouth fury car which is in my opinon a cross between Herbie and the Terminator. The car is the star of the film a true jaw drop stunner that seduces a 17 year old to restore her {the car Christine} to her former glory. The 17 year old named Arnie Cunningham is a shy high school kid who becomes obsessed with restoring Christine that it breaks friendship and family life. Christine then goes out ...
