It'll swallow your soul...

Advantages: Surprisingly good picture for such a low budget film, although age is starting to show through
Disadvantages: All the extras are the same as the previous DVD release

...be surprised how many times Evil Dead II appears on people's Top 10 lists. Hell even quite a few Top 5 lists may feature it. It might even occupy the top slot on some of those lists. The half remake/half sequel to the The Evil Dead was directed by the now very famous Sam Raimi a million years before he got his hands on Spider-Man and, perhaps unfairly, will always be seen as his masterpiece by genre fans. It wouldn't be until Drag Me To Hell ...
...release. Optimum Releasing has brought Evil Dead II to Blu-Ray as it did previously on DVD. In fact the extras on the back look very similar... Oh wait, they're the same. Of course this isn't a terrible thing, the commentary track for example is one of the funniest I've ever had the pleasure to hear. I actually like to put the film on every now and then to just listen to the track. Yes, I am that sad. The cast joke with each other and recall fond ...

Five go to a cabin in the woods

Advantages: Enormous fun, scary at times
Disadvantages: Made on a seriously strict budget

...to a deserted cabin in the woods. Within hours of having arrived, Cheryl is visited by an evil spirit who takes control of her hands while she is drawing. Cheryl later decides that someone is watching them from the woods and goes outside to investigate - while there, she is attacked by tree roots and branches, but manages to get away, returning sobbing to the cabin. The others all think she is making things up, but eventually Ash agrees to drive ...
...of those somethings is in the cellar of the cabin. Can they find out what it is and get away safely? Or are they all doomed to die horribly?! Directed by Sam Raimi, this 1981 film was a suprise hit, making more of a splash than other films with much higher budgets. For modern viewers, it may be hard to tell exactly why it was so highly acclaimed - the acting is rubbish and the special effects are way worse than they should have been for a film made ...

Bloody Awful

Advantages: The DVD is cheap
Disadvantages: Story, dialogue, acting, special features

...predictions are not always true. Intruder transpires to be a yawn a minute horror tale in which a group of late night supermarket workers are stalked by an unknown assailant. The problem with Intruder is that its just nothing new, it steals ideas from The Friday The 13th movies, uses named cast in order to add a touch of class to a very low budget and pointless film. There is a bit of humour, which really is not funny at all, but seems to think it ...
...off is just awful, there is no bonding with characters or their tedious acting. The storylines are tied together with the tiniest pieces of string. Then when all hell does break loose its on the whole rather pointless, and worse still they try to keep the killers identity secret, but at the same time developing a pathetic plot that makes it obvious exactly who the killer is. The sets and fashions look dated and I suspect that's down to the fact ...

i couldnt see the woods for the trees.

Advantages: not as long as some rubbish films
Disadvantages: still too long

...bad attempt at psychological horror. The story begins when neglected teenager Heather Fasulo (played by Agnes Bruckner) is left at a remote boarding school for girls only, guess where? Right in the middle of the woods! The school is governed by the wicked headmistress Ms Traverse (played by Patricia Clarkson) she and the staff are nothing more than wicked people hiding a wicked secret. Heather is tormented by her class mates and staff alike and ...
...parents other than to ask the staff to, who of course do not. When students start to disappear, Heather realises that there is something very wrong with this place and as her visions start at nights she becomes even more terrified, seeing things in her sleep that she cannot explain. One thing`s for sure, she is very much alone here and someone knows what’s going on but no one is saying. She eventually makes friends with one of her class mates and ...

Bubba Ho-Tep review

Advantages: Original story, good chemistry between the actors
Disadvantages: None

Bubba Ho-Tep is a comedy horror movie directed by Don Coscarelli (who also directed all four "Phantasm" films) and stars the legend that is Bruce Campbell! Campbell plays Elvis, the actual, real Elvis. It seems he switched places with a look-alike (also played by Campbell) because he got bored of all the glitz and glamour and wanted to get back to his roots. Unfortunately the contract he drew up was destroyed and he had an accident that threw out ...
...back, and now spends his day in an old folk's home. He teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow resident who believes that he is John F. Kennedy and that his skin was dyed black. Together they investigate the recent spate of deaths in their home, and find out it may be to do with an ancient Egyptian mummy, as you do. As no-one else believes them these two old codgers have to take on the entity themselves, regardless of their capabilities. A good ...
