Thank god I could never solve a rubik's cube!!!

Advantages: cheap, atmospheric, terrifying
Disadvantages: starting to look a little dated

WE WILL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART!!!! Generally speaking, the Eighties were not good to the horror film. Films made in this decade were either comedy horror's like evil dead, or films that were designed to make you jump, like nightmare on Elm Street. Most times, films like this were not truly scary. More often than not, it was the orchestral soundtrack that made you jump, rather than a particularly scary plot or effect. There were, however, occasional ...
...possible to pull the proverbial needle from the Eighties haystack. One such needle, is Clive Barker's directorial debut, Hellraiser. Barker was not well known. Previously he had written three short horror storybooks called the 'Books of blood'. Although highly enjoyable in their own right, they are more notable for the quote that was published on the front cover. " I have seen the future of horror, and his name is Clive Barker ". When Something like ...

Pinhead and Co.

Advantages: The interesting characters from hell
Disadvantages: Bland

The fourth installment of the Hellraiser series spans several settings and timelines: first of all we are introduced to Space Station Minos in 2127 where Dr Paul Merchant (Bruce Ramsay) unlocks the gate to hell using a futuristic robot; then we are in 18th century France and we see Bruce Ramsay as the toymaker Phillip L'Merchant - father to the puzzle box that opens the doors to hell; after this we are taken to 1996 in America where John Merchant ...
...it seems as though the Hellraiser series has stopped being an entertaining and scary horror and become just a way to make money with no thought for the viewers. Hellraiser Bloodline isn't a complete waste of time, however, because some things in the film can be disturbing and scary and, depending on you sense of humour, you may find some incidents quite funny. ...

Hellraiser: Bloodline and Inferno

Advantages: Good storytelling, amazing special effects
Disadvantages: No DVD extras

...fourth gripping installment of the Hellraiser series, we are treated to the story of the Lament Configuration (or Lemarchand's Box or whatever you call it). It involves demons, Pinhead, some French people, architecture and outer space. Pretty good deal. This film is my favorite in the Hellraiser series. By itself, there isn't much going on. I can understand why many think this film is weak. If I just watched it without the entire series, I would ...
...similarities with the book than Hellraiser 2, 3 and 4. Good actors, some good SFX, a dark, violent atmosphere and an entertaining story sum up to one of the best sequels for a long time. The dissapointing thing with the release it that it doesn't haven't any extras at all on the DVD, big shame!! You can get the DVD for around £9 which is quite good in my opinion for two films. Thanks for reading! ...

Hell on earth

Advantages: likable characters, new direction for story
Disadvantages: super cheesy

Whilest this film leaves behind the story of the first two (which concentrated on the one family) I found it a refreshing change. The story concentrated on new characters and a new lease of life for our beloved Pinhead (now able to walk earth) It also told more about his backstory and his life before becoming a cenobyte. The lead character is a reporter, trying to get her big break story, who takes in a homeless girl who brings with her the lament ...

Hellraiser 3 - blood and gore

Advantages: Good fun film
Disadvantages: No DVD extras again

Hellraiser 3 - Hell On Earth I first watched this back in 1994 after watching the first two Hellraisers and recently found it again on Ebay so bought it. Thought it deserved a quick review. At the end of Hellraiser 2 we see Pinhead appear to be destroyed and mummified in that big Statue. In Hellraiser 3 we see him make a welcome return after some chick is killed and her blood splatters the statue that an evil club owner Brad has brought from an ...
...you'd expect from a good Hellraiser and this film takes it to the next level. The special effects in this film are awesome with little CGI. There's also a small scene where we see Kirsty (Ashley Lawrence from Hellraiser 1 and 2) talking about "The Box" from her stint in the mental asylum. The Cenobites (pinheads lackeys) in this film are alot more modern too. We see Joeys camera man with a camera ploughed through his head, and Joey now has a smoking ...
