RING OF DARKNESS (2004)

Advantages: A great laugh, designed for groupies and great six packs.
Disadvantages: Really naff and the worst visual effect I have ever seen.

~~~~~~~~~ SYNOPSIS ~~~~~~~~~ The film begins with a climax, where you meet a young man named 'Gordo' (Greg Cipes), who was in a panic. Something was really wrong and seeing Gordo in a lovely mansion bedroom one evening, packing all his belongs as fast as he can, could only meant he was running away from something. Gordo manages to escape and run as far as to the beach before he was bombarded by four other young men. Gordo obviously knew them ...
...threaten to expose their dark secret to the world. It was then you realise that the four men was the make-up of a famous boyband, along with Gordo called 'Take 10'. Gordo was confident about spilling their secret to the world, but never managed it as the rest of Take 10 - Xavier (Jeremy Jackson), B.J. (Colin Bain), Jake (Matt T. Baker) and Kyle (John Wynn) attacked him…or bit him to death, I couldn't really see it. A member was lost (Gordo) who ...
Creepy as Hell
Advantages: Superb musical score, hugely atmospheric, powerfully unsettling, simple but effective plot
Disadvantages: None
...of tension and suspense. In the hands of a lesser director, The Fog would have been just another generic horror film, (see the execrable 2005 remake if you don't believe me) but Carpenter instead manages to create an oppressive and unsettling film with his mix of eerily-lit shots, brooding off-screen menace and his trademark pulsing synths that ebb and flow throughout, gradually building up anxiety in the viewer on an almost subconscious level. The ...
...beacon and driving it onto the rocks, causing crew to drown before plundering the ship of gold and using it to establish the town. The local church houses a huge gold crucifix fashioned from the supposedly ill-gotten gold, and its curator, Father Malone, is a descendent to the head conspirator and town founder. On the hundredth anniversary of the shipwrecking a strange luminous fog begins to envelop the town, and strange figures with glowing eyes ...
Horror masters pay tribute to Poe
Advantages: Great stories written by poe. Scarey.
Disadvantages: Below average work for george romero
Two masters of horror, Dario Argento (Suspiria, Phenomena) and George Romero (Night of the living dead, Dawn of the dead), each pay tribute to Edgar Allan Poe with screen adaptations of the master’s terrifying tales from the dark side. Romero’s story centres on a greedy young wife’s bid to trick her dying husband out of his millions, and the terror which is unleashed when mysterious beings take possession of the old man’s body. The inspiration for ...
...Cat". Skilfully grafting in chilling scenes from several of Poe’s other classic stories. Argento’s trip into terror tells of a man’s cruel obsession with his wife’s cat that finally drives him to murder of the most gruesome kind. Firstly Romeo’s story is not up to scratch, and although it provides a spooky atmosphere, its nothing special and not a patch on Argento’s segment. Theres nothing truly wrong with Romero’s segment but from the director ...
Why not six, Blake? Why not me?
Advantages: Timeless, classic horror tale
Disadvantages: Sadly a wasted Blu-ray release on some levels
Of all the many movies I have seen (believe me I’ve seen a lot) John Carpenter’s The Fog is probably the film I have seen the most. Released in the UK in the early 1980’s The Fog is a horror tale so cleverly delivered that almost 30 years after it was made it still looks as fantastic as it did then. In the small town of Antonio Bay the residents are preparing for the 100th anniversary of their home. For 99 years all has been quiet in the community, ...
...be turned upside down; while the town celebrates Father Malone (Hal Holbrook) an original township descendant exposes a terrible secret about the history of their home, they are not only celebrating the anniversary of their homes, but also the fact that their ancestors were responsible for a terrible crime. On the back of two very successful low budget features (Halloween and Assault On Precinct 13) The Fog was the opportunity for director John Carpenter ...
