Holiday turns to Massacre
Review of The Hills Have Eyes DVD by JamieT123

Advantages: Good horror film, tense, suspenseful, ghory
Disadvantages: Not for faint hearted

...of his 1977 classic about the Carters family who are travelling through the American southwest. However they are forced to take a detour into an area which is closed off from everything. This area was used many years ago for nuclear testing which should be empty...but is not. The Carter's car breaks down at this desert-like area stuck in the middle of nowhere and they become stranded. The Carter family slowly find themselves in a trap set by the ...
...film is definitely not for the faint-hearted and is full of blood and guts thorughout with many sick events. If you are a horror fan and like films such as Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Wrong Turn-you will probably enjoy this. But, if you havent seen many horror films or even none at all-I wouldnt recommend starting with this one. I enjoyed this film as it is tense, suspenseful and also quite scary. 8/10. ... Read review

The Ultimate Giallo Masterpiece
Review of Profondo Rosso DVD by sghawken

Advantages: A fantastic murder mystery adventure, with pure horror at its heart.
Disadvantages: Unknown if this is the most uncut version or not.

Profondo Rosso AKA Deep Red AKA The Hatchet Murders AKA 100 other titles is a fantastic entry level Italian Horror Masterpiece. Filmed during the winter of 1974 and released in 1975, Deep Red as it's more commonly known was the vehicle which made Dario Argento a horror legend. Five years earlier Argento had struck gold with "Bird With A Crystal Plumage" which the critics immediately compared to Alfred Hitchcock's films. Although not the creator for ...
...hand in hand. In Italy the term Giallo is an accolade awarded to very few movies. Giallo in the briefest sense means Bloody Whodunit. But it goes further than that, much like the term Dogma has been over the last 10 years or so a Giallo film has to fall into a number of categories:- 1) It needs to be a traditional murder story (no 8 legged beasts etc.) 2) It must be have a gore element that is deemed to be memorable. 3) It must have vivid colours ... "But two of the victims are deviants"
Review of Tenebrae (Wide Screen) by sghawken

Advantages: Fast Moving Chop Horror
Disadvantages: None

...Dario Argento time yet again. Tenebrae pronounced Ten-a-bray or to my amusement I once heard it pronounced teen bra. Was Argento's first big splash in the 1980's. It immediately met with harsh criticism and some rather nasty editing upon arrival in the UK. Peter Neil (Anthony Fransciosa) is a best selling American other he has had two very successful novels one of which is Outer Dawn. This proved very popular in Italy. So he is asked by his agent ...
...the murderer could be. Tenebrae has a rather bizarre soundtrack from Argento's favourite Goblin. The ingoing track is nasty, however the next time you hear it, it grows on you and I actually quite enjoyed it. Other music within the movie is quite well thought out, and not out of place unlike some Italian horror movies. TENEBRAE AT THE BBFC Tenebrae was rejected a certificate in the UK. And immediately ended up on the DPP hit list of original "Video ... Read review

Disadvantages: A wee bit long.

...stained glass. In suspiria you have an excellent witch story, mixed in with the most vivid death scenes, beautiful colourings and sets, and a fantastic soundtrack by the legendary Goblin. This Movie ticks all the boxes in all the right places, and is a a firm Argento favourite. ... Read review

Review of Switchblade Romance DVD by inbetweendaysx

Advantages: Tension, twists, horror, gory, best ever film
Disadvantages: If someone tells you the twist!

Switchblade Romance (Haute Tension) A french subtitled film, tells the story of two friends Marie and Alex, they are about to embark on a journey to stay with Alex's parents at a farm. On the way they start freaking each other out, but it doesn't become apparent until they get there that something bad really is going to happen. The film is also available in France but named Haute Tension. Lots of blood and guts in this film, not recommened for ...
...to come out of FRANCE, and if you haven't seen it you are missing out. This is for people that like TWISTS in films, because this has a twist that has made me and my mates go "what the?". Basically Marie, likes Alex. She never wants anything to come between them. But now they are stuck in the middle of nowhere in Alex's family home - but "the man in a van" goes and kills Alex's family, brother and all... Each death is gruesome, each member of the ...
