Creepy as Hell
Advantages: Superb musical score, hugely atmospheric, powerfully unsettling, simple but effective plot Disadvantages: None
...of tension and suspense. In the hands of a lesser director, The Fog would have been just another generic horror film, (see the execrable 2005 remake if you don't believe me) but Carpenter instead manages to create an oppressive and unsettling film with his mix of eerily-lit shots, brooding off-screen menace and his trademark pulsing synths that ebb and flow throughout, gradually building up anxiety in the viewer on an almost subconscious level. The ... ...beacon and driving it onto the rocks, causing crew to drown before plundering the ship of gold and using it to establish the town. The local church houses a huge gold crucifix fashioned from the supposedly ill-gotten gold, and its curator, Father Malone, is a descendent to the head conspirator and town founder. On the hundredth anniversary of the shipwrecking a strange luminous fog begins to envelop the town, and strange figures with glowing eyes ...

Trick or Treat?
Advantages: The John Carpenter original, and H20 Disadvantages: The Curse storyline
...the film takes place on Halloween 1978, 15 years after a 6 year old killed his sister. The madman has now escaped from the asylum, donned a creepy mask, and headed back to the town of the original horror. Jamie Lee Curtis is Laurie Strode, the resourceful teenager who is stalked over the course of Halloween night by the masked man. Donald Pleasance turns up as an eerie doctor who has to try and bring Myers in alive. The performances are above average ... ...a scene from the original Halloween that subtly plays on a screen in a bar. It wasn't long before Michael returned though. After spending 10 years in a coma, he is now waking up for Halloween. After all, he wont be happy til everybody in his family is dead. We still dont know why though. What we do find out here is that Laurie Strode died in a car crash, and has left a child who now lives with over protective foster parents. She knows nothing about ...

Halloween Box Set - 6 sequels too many but hey...
Advantages: Simple, straightforward, includes classic horror film 'Halloween' Disadvantages: Reptitive
...to start writing stuff for Halloween but I brought this a while back, watched it, lost it, and then found it yesterday when I was routing though my draws.
As most know, the Halloween franchise revolves around the serial killer Michael Myers, a psychotic child who grows to a super-strong monster, who also has a thing for masks and knives. Standard horror affair then, but wait...
I don't know what it is, whether it's just me, but I honestly find ... ...I admit it goes downhill. Halloween 3: Season of the Witch is the only one that doesn't feature Michael Myers. Despite this, it's a decent watch and truly quite shocking in some places. Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers, is well, the return of Michael Myers. Queue the blood and gore, and a star return from Donald Pleasance as Michael's psychiatrist Doctor Loomis. There really is no point discussing the other films as they follow the same lines, ...

Why not six, Blake? Why not me?
Advantages: Timeless, classic horror tale Disadvantages: Sadly a wasted Blu-ray release on some levels
Of all the many movies I have seen (believe me I’ve seen a lot) John Carpenter’s The Fog is probably the film I have seen the most. Released in the UK in the early 1980’s The Fog is a horror tale so cleverly delivered that almost 30 years after it was made it still looks as fantastic as it did then. In the small town of Antonio Bay the residents are preparing for the 100th anniversary of their home. For 99 years all has been quiet in the community, ... ...be turned upside down; while the town celebrates Father Malone (Hal Holbrook) an original township descendant exposes a terrible secret about the history of their home, they are not only celebrating the anniversary of their homes, but also the fact that their ancestors were responsible for a terrible crime. On the back of two very successful low budget features (Halloween and Assault On Precinct 13) The Fog was the opportunity for director John Carpenter ...
