Nosferatu
Review of Nosferatu DVD by nautilis

Advantages: Creepy silence
Disadvantages: None, unless you dislike silent movies

Nosferatu was and still is one of the creepiest horrors of all time. The silence throughout the film adds to the atmosphere in a very unsettling way. Nosferatu was originally meant to be based on Bram Stokers Dracula but was denied the rights making the director change the title and vampires name to Count Orlok. It was banned in Sweden because of its graphic nature at the time but the ban was lifted in 1972. Even though it is dated and considered ... Read review

Robot
Review of Doctor Who - Robot DVD by phurren2006

Advantages: Tom Baker's first Doctor Who story
Disadvantages: Special effects are dated

...was the military group The Doctor worked with during the period of the show's production). The plot has The Doctor, who has just regenerated, aid UNIT in investigating the theft of top secret plans and equipment from premises which had been believed to be impenetrable. It transpires that the culprit was a robot created by Professor Kettlewell (played by Edward Burnham) and it is up to The Doctor and his companions to stop it. This is a fun story ...
...Doctor Who stories from the time, are somewhat creaky in comparison to those in the modern series. The DVD features a commentary by Baker, Sladen and the writer of the story, Terrance Dicks. This is an informative and entertaining commentary, and is to be treasured as Tom Baker rarely provides them. There are a number of other special features too, including documentaries and even the opening of a BLUE PETER episode about the 'Robot' story. I highly ... Read review

A FILM ABOUT A BAD HALLOWEEN COSTUME?
Review of Trollenberg Terror DVD by pc2308

Advantages: Good acting
Disadvantages: Everything else

This early (1958) science fiction film, is an entertaining little number. It is certainly not the best sci-fi movie I have seen but it does have something about it. The special effects are not great, it is Black & White and the story isn't brilliant either, having said that there is a surprising performance by Warren Mitchell (Alf Garnett to some of you) who plays a straight laced Professor. The acting in this film is not bad either, and once you ...
...was not as good as they are today then the film isn't that bad compared to the standards of the day. Directed by Quentin Lawrence (The Invisible Man Series). The Story.... High in the Alps is a creature from Outer Space (well it has to be really) who decapitates it's victims whilst shrouded by a mysterious radioactive fog. In a research centre on top of a Mountain is Professor Crevett, and his team. They notice this mysterious fog and immediately ... Read review

The Golem legend is just not very interesting
Review of Der Golem (Silent) by coleecip

Advantages: A classic of early foreign cinema
Disadvantages: poorly shot, poor plot, unintentionally very funny moment

Der Golem is a classic of early cinema, and while I have no wish to trample all over the oppression of the Jewish people etc, etc, this is a dull story and I have read the legend as well. The Golem is a Jewish story first written around the 1500s about the Jewish oppression that existed. All through history Jews have been persecuted and hated as moneylenders. So this is the inevitable film of this story. The Golem is created to defend the Jewish ...
...get on the DVD of Der Golem. 64 minutes of nothing particular. Somewhat amusingly Der Golem is also shot with the Golem carrying a shopping basket on his arm like an elderly lady. It is an unintentionally funny moment and is really something I shouldn't highlight it will ruin the story for you if you do watch it!! Compared to other films of the time (1920s) this is a poorly shot movie. The camera exposure sways in and out of light and dark, the ... Read review

A film without a storyline!
Review of Final Destination 3 DVD by princesstasha

Advantages: Easy to follow...
Disadvantages: Just dull to watch

...it just becomes well, laborious. Final destination 3 has no twist in it whatsoever, we just see more of the same old stuff...and all films need some sort of revelation to them...even sequels. In my opinion, the film should have stopped at final destination two, just enough to let us know that death was still "stalking" people. But no...the producers decide to make yet another film based on the never ending story line...There's only so many freak ...
...player from utter boredem! Regrettably, i ended up paying £20 for the DVD, in the hope that it would be as good as the original...I probably should have asked for a refund...Especially after the "choose their fate" option! It is quite possibly one of the most ridiculous features i have ever seen on a DVD. Basically, it says you can choose the characters fate. So, at the start screen you click "choose their fate". Little did i know that this would ... Read review
