Style over substance?
Advantages: Some excellent scenes that aren't likely to leave you any time soon. Disadvantages: An unsatisfactory ending - even by horror film standards!
In the time honoured tradition of Far Eastern horror films this will undoubtedly leave you with a head scratching "huh?" come the end credits.
The film follows the story of two sisters, Su-mi and Su-yeon, and their interaction with their father and step-mother, Eun-joo. The first two-thirds of the film consist mainly of the tensions between the older sister (Su-mi) and her parents, interspersed with some genuinely creepy scenes that although very ... ...We learn that the girls' mother is dead and that they blame Eun-joo, Su-mi goes so far as to refuse to speak to her father because of his new wife. The viewer is left increasingly intrigued as despite Eun-joo's best efforts at acting as a dutiful wife we see the father, Moo-hyeon, leaving the marital bed to sleep on the couch downstairs. It appears that Eun-joo, in turn blames Su-mi for her husband's lack of interest in her, resulting in some deliciously ...

The tree of death
Advantages: Eerie and strangely believable Disadvantages: A bit too chilling in parts
...having an obsession with an acacia tree in the back garden, but the Kims put this down to his unhappy past and he soon seems to settle. Then Mrs Kim finds herself to be pregnant. Shocked and surprised, she hastens to comfort Jin-sung, promising him that he will be just as important to her when the new baby comes along. Jin-sung is not convinced; especially when he overhears Mrs Kim's mother making remarks about him. When the baby comes, Jin-sung's ... ...Whispering Corridors. Compared to that, Acacia is a much more mature film. Whispering Corridors is full of strange happenings and poor special effects. The special effects in Acacia are much more subtle and believable. The cinematography is stunning at times. There is strong red theme; for example, the light shining on the acacia tree and the mad arrangement of red wool that Mrs Kim arranges throughout the house which presumably is meant to remind ...

Be Careful in Your OWN Home!
Advantages: Horrific, Gruesome, Different Disadvantages: Very short, Low Budget
...rented it out from Blockbusters. The girls really didn't like the sound of it at all, but it was our turn to chose. (And we had been subjected to what i would say is much more horrific - a ROMANTIC COMEDY!!)
So we got it back and chucked it in the DVD player, everyone getting comfortable, with the lights off setting the scene for the film and making sure we was in the right environent. Being a horror film, this is obviously the best way to watch ... ...at night, thats the best way!
The film itself follows a filmmaker and wedding photographer who is bored of his current lifestyle and wants something interesting and exciting to do. However, the things that interest and excite him, are somewhat different to the interests of most of us. He enjoys sadistic, slightly ritualistic, horrific, random acts of cruelty and murder to absolutely anyone. Ranging from traffic wardens to housewives.
Each gruesome ...

For "Ichi" fans only
Advantages: Unique Disadvantages: Too short, may be too extreme for some tastes, but not extreme enough for others
A short animated prequel to Takashi Miike's 'Ichi The Killer' which provides a little bit of back story on the twisted, disturbed character of "Ichi".
The film explores the origins of Ichi's perverse sexual excitement in graphic, extreme violence during his troubled teenage days of relentless bullying at school. It's dark and disturbing, but not as extreme as it's live action counterpart. It plays out like a 45 minute music video, with an almost ... ...To get the most out of this one you really need to see the original 'Ichi the Killer', otherwise you'll be a little lost at what this anime is trying to get across. The animation itself isn't very strong either and it all has a rushed type feel to it - probably in order to quickly cash in on the success of the movie which was released a few months before this was put into production.
Worth a look if you're a fan of the 2001 movie, but it's nothing ...

Ordinary and confusing
Advantages: It could have been worse, really.... Disadvantages: Bad acting, confusing plot, unrounded characters, and hte list continues...
...Hence, if you are in the mood for a very good scare or are looking for a horror classic to add to your collection, I would definitely not recommend it to you. I am very happy that I did not make the silly mistake of wasting my money on this DVD, and instead someone decided to be cheap and give it to me.
PLOT: The movie is about two Japanese journalists who investigate a series of deaths or suicides blamed on a suicide manual hidden on an unmarked ... ...kill themselves. Later on in the investigation however, the same two journalists discover something about the Buddhist afterlife where people who commit suicide are sent to a certain hell.
