Thank god I could never solve a rubik's cube!!!

Advantages: cheap, atmospheric, terrifying
Disadvantages: starting to look a little dated

WE WILL TEAR YOUR SOUL APART!!!! Generally speaking, the Eighties were not good to the horror film. Films made in this decade were either comedy horror's like evil dead, or films that were designed to make you jump, like nightmare on Elm Street. Most times, films like this were not truly scary. More often than not, it was the orchestral soundtrack that made you jump, rather than a particularly scary plot or effect. There were, however, occasional ...
...possible to pull the proverbial needle from the Eighties haystack. One such needle, is Clive Barker's directorial debut, Hellraiser. Barker was not well known. Previously he had written three short horror storybooks called the 'Books of blood'. Although highly enjoyable in their own right, they are more notable for the quote that was published on the front cover. " I have seen the future of horror, and his name is Clive Barker ". When Something like ...

It can't tear anything apart. Can it?

Advantages: Its a bona-fide scary movie.
Disadvantages: Too scary?

I watched Hellraiser for the first time last night and for a horror-lover like myself, this was long overdue. Perhaps it was down to the fact that i put it off until i could muster a moments peace to dim the lights and watch it alone. This, in hindsight, would prove a harrowing plan. It takes little time in setting the scene and its clear the foundations are being laid bare for the onslaught of sheer terror that ensues. Never has a film had me so ...

Young boys prefer hell ... Jennifer's Body

Advantages: Good strong leads
Disadvantages: Tried to hard to be cool

...helpless victims after falling under Jennifer's spell but it was also very pathetic to show that all teenage boys could easily be slayed by Jennifer (but hey maybe they could be!). Its hard to remember the film is a horror film at some points because of the witty one liners and out of place quips that some of the character come out with, again I think they try to hard to sound very hip and cool. But bearing that in mind some of the characters did ...
...the special affects scenes showing Jennifer's transformation were very well done. I openly admit i'm very jealous that even as a demon with a mouth the size of a grid and blood oozing everywhere, Megan Fox still looked very sexy. The film gradually built up tension from the start of the film and panned out quite well to the end. The finale was not what I expected, nor did it stand out as a fantastic twist but saying that it was a fitting ending to ...

Team Jacob has arrived!

Advantages: Excellent acting of Taylor Lautner
Disadvantages: Some of the wolf shots are poor.

...sequel to the exceptionally popular Twilight was eagerly anticipated by fans worldwide. Based on the best-selling novel by Stephenie Meyer the advance box-office sales were tremendous but could the film live up to expectations? The Plot Bella Swan, a regular 17 year old had previously fallen in love with Edward Cullen a 17 year old vampire who had been around for over a hundred years, she was desperate to become immortal but Edward refused ...
...much of Edward as in Twilight which is a disappointment to all Team Edward fans. The majority of the time he appears it is through Bella imagination. Taylor Lautner plays Jacob Black. The 17 year old spent a lot of time body-building before this film. The Director, Chris Weitz, had contemplated changing the actor for this part as in the story Jacob changes physically a lot in a very short space of time. Lautner rose to the challenge and the film ...

Romeo and Juliet.. with sharp, pointy teeth

Advantages: Visually striking in places, nice buff bodies.. if you like that sort of thing
Disadvantages: Little of interest to the uninititated

...its opening weekend and gave Twilight fans their latest fix of Bella, Edward, Jacob et al. I was dragged along on opening day, after my girlfriend had made herself watch Transporter 3, it was the least that I could do in return. I’m not the best qualified to comment on this film, having not read the series of books it is based on. Still, from a layman’s perspective (and Twilight really does seem to have reached cult status) I feel I can comment ...
...moments. Buuut… The Twilight unititiated will pick this film to pieces. Whilst the fans pick over which plot developments have been omitted or drool over Jacob and his other muscle beach buddies, the neutral viewer will be less than impressed. Whereas Mr Muscle has a certain amount of charm (and the most hypnotic white teeth) the other cast members make hold minimal thrall over the audience. Bella has no ambition and seemingly no interest outside ...
