...or consciousness) are guided by Stalker (symbolizing our desire, will and everlasting search of meaning) to the mysterious Zone (which may represent all our spiritual goals, meanings, struggles to achieve them and barriers in our path). Zombie Heaven, Shopping Hell

Advantages: Probably one of the best zombie films ever made.
Disadvantages: Occasional lapses in acting but I say 'embrace them and rejoice'.

...eat you. Dawn of the Dead is always going to hold a special place in my heart, and not just because it keeps things in perspective for me when the entire human race seems intent on throwing themselves into my path and lingering there with intent. I first saw it when I was a kid and it's been in my conciousness ever since. It's the winning combination of eerily cheerful music, black humour, sharp social commentary, and the best collection of individualistic ...
...opinion will always criticise this film for its grainy amateur appearance and cast, but I am of the opinion that this is part of what makes this film so special, part of why it can get under your skin and linger in the memory so long. In a sea of recent CGI-riddled horror productions that are here today, forgotten tommorow, a film that has clearly been lovingly hand-crafted has shambled through the test of time and eaten the competition. Priceless. ...

The Amityville Escapade

Advantages: Makes you jump now and again
Disadvantages: That little annoying child

So it is coming it the season of Hallowe'en were we all try and scare ourselves and more especially younger relatives into a coma. In keeping with this line of thinking I bought I few horror DVDs the other day and last night decided to start with watching this one. It seemed to be the meekest I'd seen the 2005 remake and I've also reviewed one of its crappy sequels so I wasn't expecting too much. STORY The story involves the Lutz family. George ...
...and moves into the Amityville home with her as it is cheep due to the fact a young man went mad there before and ended up killing his whole family because the voice in the houses told him too. Anyway, the first sign things aren't so sweet and shiny come about when Rod Steiger appears as a priest to bless the house. The family are all out in the garden and inside alone he starts to get afraid and feel sick, swarms of flies appear and he flees the ...

Fact can be scarier than fiction...

Advantages: Classic horror. Easy to find in the shops and on-line
Disadvantages: Can seem a little dated and cheesy these days

This 1979 film is the apparently "true" story of the Lutz family and the nightmare they endured when they moved into what they thought would be their dream home. I haven't seen the new re-make but the family have distanced themselves from it, saying "it's not our story". They haven't taken too kindly to the change in family set up or the sub-plots and I can't say I blame them. However, even the original film doesn't depict quite what happened. But ...
...them that a year earlier the house had been the scene of some murders or that the place is built on an Indian burial ground. It's not long before it's obvious something is wrong. The house is clearly haunted. However, even toilets spurting black slime, and flies covering windows and blood pouring from walls doesn't make the family move out. This is rather unbelievable! And it's not surprising really - the real George Lutz said the bloody walls incident ...
