The Ultimate Giallo Masterpiece

Advantages: A fantastic murder mystery adventure, with pure horror at its heart.
Disadvantages: Unknown if this is the most uncut version or not.

Profondo Rosso AKA Deep Red AKA The Hatchet Murders AKA 100 other titles is a fantastic entry level Italian Horror Masterpiece. Filmed during the winter of 1974 and released in 1975, Deep Red as it's more commonly known was the vehicle which made Dario Argento a horror legend. Five years earlier Argento had struck gold with "Bird With A Crystal Plumage" which the critics immediately compared to Alfred Hitchcock's films. Although not the creator for ...
...hand in hand. In Italy the term Giallo is an accolade awarded to very few movies. Giallo in the briefest sense means Bloody Whodunit. But it goes further than that, much like the term Dogma has been over the last 10 years or so a Giallo film has to fall into a number of categories:- 1) It needs to be a traditional murder story (no 8 legged beasts etc.) 2) It must be have a gore element that is deemed to be memorable. 3) It must have vivid colours ...

īBabies, cats and Jack the Ripperīs daughter

Advantages: Hands of the Ripper is excellent, The uncanny is OK
Disadvantages: The monster is rather weak movie

Basically the reason to buy this box is wonderful The hands of the Ripper (1971): the Monster aka I dont want to be born (1975) is a mediocre story about Joan Collinsīs and Ralph Batesīs murderous, possessed baby (!) and The Uncanny (1977) is an OK anthology about nervous, cat-fearing Peter Cushing and those cute little furballs taking bloody revenge for their female owners. First story of The uncanny is set in 1912 London, and it is blessed with ...
...cats punishing the young couple who had murdered their owner, a rich old woman, is so-so. A bully tastes her own medicine (hurrah!) in the second story, when the tormented girl has a cat with supernatural powers, and last yarn, set in 1930s Hollywood, has a horror star and his young mistress who murder the horror starīs wife - and yes, the wife has a cat. The hands of the Ripper tells about Jack the Ripperīs psychotic daughter, who kills people in ...

Parasite's In Paradise

Advantages: A masterclass on character development
Disadvantages: The movie is too short by far.

...Cronenberg's 1975 movie Shivers. While Shivers offers you nothing overly new in the world of horror it blends subtle comedy with a lifestyle we would all rather like to live with a cold ruthless horror. Starliner Island is located just outside Montreal; it's a residential complex designed for those who want a rural lifestyle but mixed with state of the art wants of the modern society, well 70's modern. Starliner is a block of luxury apartments with ...
...that just sucks you in, Shivers is one of those movies that forgetting its gruesome endings captivates you. The life the residents of Starliner live give you a little bit of envy I guess, it seems even 30 years on that the opportunity to live in such a place is an attractive proposition. Mix with this that strange 1970's Canadian quirkiness that reminds me of those films that used to dominate television when I was a child (purchased in such abundance ...

Double Trouble But A Bargain

Advantages: Great Value Box Set
Disadvantages: Dreadful Acting

Long before David Cronenberg was a respected Director he turned out a vast serious of low budget schlock horrors. Two of his earliest movies at the time were very unique. Rabid --------- In Rabid a motorcycle accident takes a young woman (porn star Marilyn Chambers) to a unique state of the art experimental hospital. In a desperate attempt to save her life they use revolutionary surgery techniques. To everyone's surprise Rose manages to survive ...
...later she regains consciousness, however the operation is not quite successful. Within Rose's arm is a strange unidentified "blob" that has a taste for blood. At first relatively harmless it leads Rose from the hospital to cattle shed where it drains the blood from a cow. As Rose allows herself to be led by the strange creature it's thirst becomes stronger. When the taste for blood leads to the taking of a human life Rose decides to reject the urges, ...

Get The Sword!!!!

Advantages: So funny you'll almost wet yourself.
Disadvantages: The Acting is totally dire

...Christopher land on the beautiful island of Mykonos. They soon mix in with the locals and find themselves some reasonably priced accommodation. The evening is a typical one; they have a nice meal and a walk around the harbour before ringing home. "Mother, do you know what I'm doing?" asks Christopher "I'm having sex with Celia" a rather muffled squeal of disappointment is heard from the end of the phone. Celia and Christopher are no normal couple; ...
...artist who is painting an island chapel for a friend. Celia visits him at the chapel and begins her seductive routine. Having allowed the encounter to go so far, Christopher pops up from behind a wall. Within seconds the two have the artist crusified to the floor, and are filling him (via mouth) with paint. Their wicked ways don't stop there and it's only a matter of time before they are chopping people's heads off with heavy machinery and chasing ...
