I have to say I'm not a huge horror movie fan, especially with American movies, the last one to amuse me being that tongue-in-cheek one where the scarecrow thing attacks the school bus. But with a real buzz around films like Paranormal Activity, 'Let the Right One', a subtitled vampire winner from Sweden, and this, it seemed a good time to dabble. Paranormal Activity - What Happens When You Sleep?

Advantages: well acted & directed, simple story, refreshingly different
Disadvantages: psychologically scary, not graphic or obvious enough for some, motion-sickness!!!

...loose any sleep. Paranormal Activity, for me though, was different. Possibly because it's set in a very real and familiar environment with characters I could relate to, I found it genuinely scary, sometimes uncomfortable and always mesmerising and gripping. It depends on what you find scary I guess. If you found the "Red Rum" scene in The Shining more scary than Jack smashing down the door, or the beginning of the music in Jaws infinitely more terrifying ...
