Film Only Review:

Colin Ware (Colin Firth) is a British artist who decides to go on holiday to mend his broke heart after his fiancée Vera (Minnie Driver) marries another man behind his back. Broken and confused he lands in the small town of Hope (America) where quickly eveyone wants to know his buisness. Having trouble holding it together he breaks down to the hotel receptionist where he decides to stay who gives him a tablet to settle the exhausted Colin down and calls up her friend Mandy who is a care giver/nurse who he wakes up to after having some sleep which he had been missing.

Mandy tries to help him think of nice calming thoughts but it doesn't work all he can think about is Vera and her betrayel however the young and naive Mandy soon becomes his friend with her wild ways and being completely the oppposite of Colin and we soon see a spark between the pair.

However Vera eventually turns up on the scene just as Colin is painting portraits of the town and commisioned to paint one of the mayor and really settling to into life there and becoming happy but she has a secret she needs to reveal to Colin. Can this secret take him back home with her to London or would he miss Mandy now too much. Is it true that the place called Hope could give him just that?

My Opinion:

Ok this is a pretty run of the mill rom/com though I have to admit I really did enjoy it! Although I love the sexy Colin Firth to pieces I have to admit that as an actor the only thing I've ever been impressed by that he has been in is Bridget Jones and yep I've seen all of his other offerings and never liked him other than to look at. However in this aside from the fact he's called Coliin as a character and in real life which confused me slightly as to why..... he was good and seemed to give the role everything that he could. Yep he plays the usual upper class English Gent twit but it works really well with the fun and feisy character of Mandy played by Heather Graham. Its nice because although we get to see Mandy's fun and totally reckless side we do get to see another softer side of her as her well. Vera played by Minny Driver is superb in this too as the ruthless woman who will stop at nothing to get what she wants and even the hotel owners were pretty amusing.

There are no surprises in this film you can guess from the get go how this will turn out and its not a film you will think about after you've watched it no doubt but it made me chuckle in part and it was nice to see the gorgeous Colin in a role he looked comfortable in for once.

One for the ladies this one on a Sunday afternoon with a rating of 12 and with a run time of 88 minutes this doesn't feel to long an offering and it didn't feel like it dragged either which was nice.

Available to hire from most good rental stores and to buy from places like Amazon, I paid about £2.00 for my used but in good condition copy from there, for a new copy expect to pay aroud the £3.97 mark (including p+p).
