My daughter had this for Christmas last year after watching it at school and pleading day and night with her Dad for copy.
It cost £5.99 from a local Choices Video store - we had to order it and wait a fortnight for it to arrive - this was because its a fairly old film and so not always kept in stock.
Its a wonderful magical film about Peter Pan or Peter Panning (Robin Williams) as he knows himself.
Peter Pan the boy who promised never to grwo up is now Peter Panning a cold manipulative Lawyer who has little time for his wife or kids - its work, work, work! - and Peter Panning hates flying!!!
You see when Peter Pan was 12 he came in through Wendy Moira Angela Darlings window for the last time - at that point he met Wendy's grandaughter Moira and fell in love with her and never returned to Never Never Land.
Wendy had him adopted by an American couple called the Pannings (bit of a conicidence don;t you think) and when Peter grew up he married Moira and had two lovely children - Jack and Maggie Panning.
So the story starts in America where Peter and his family are getting ready to visit Granny Wendy in London
They arrive in London for the opening of a new wing of the Childrens Hospital which is being dedicated to Granny Wendy. Whilst at the ceremony Hook arrives at Wendy's house and kidnaps Jack and Maggie and takes them back to Never Land with him in an attempt to get Peter back there so as to settle unfinished business - namely Captain James Hook wants justice done for the loss of his hand.
So Peter and Wendy return to the house to find the children gone and a note from Hook telling Peter that his presence is required in Never Land.
Granny Wendy now feels it is time to tell Peter who he really is - Peter thinks Wendy has gone mad and he hits the bottle - mainly because of his missing children - and partly because of Wendy's revelation.
In a drunken stupor he is whisked off to Never Land by Tinkerbelle and wakes up on Captains Hooks island.
Hook has his children and Tinkerbelle has 3 days to get Peter Panning to remember who he is and to FLY again!!!!
Peter is reunited with his lost boys who now have a new leader - Ruffio - and this new leader does not believe that Panning is "The Pan" - the lost boys after a little persuasion from Tinkerbelle help Peter remember his past and in 3 days Peter flys again - at which point he rescues his children and finishes Hook off once and for all!!!
Hook is played by Dustin Hoffman and i have to say that he is the star of the film - Hook is cad - a pirate - but a loveable and funny one. One you find yourself irresistably drawn.
Smee his sidekick is played by Bob Hoskins and again an amazing character who really adds depth and humour to the film.
Tinkerbelle is played by Julia Roberts and i have say is a bit disappointing - she looks rather boyish as Tink and not at all fairylike - not one of Miss Roberts' best parts.
A better mix of Lost Boys could not have been found - a mix of races and personalities that make them a delight to watch - seriously funny kids.
And Peter Pan is played by Robin Williams - a wonderful actor who just seems to fit every role that is thrown at him - he has no problem becoming the young boy Pan again and adapts to his two roles as "Panning "and "Pan" brilliantly.
A truly wonderful family film - no age group - just fun for all.
Directed by Steven Speilberg in 1991. Runtime 144mins. Distributed by Colombia Tristar.
