I hate child actors and Macaulay Culkin is one of the precocious little brats that I hate the most.
HOWEVER, Home Alone by John Hughes is a brilliant film, even if it was badly stretched out across two very similar sequels, and even the despicable Macaulay was halfway tolerable in this film.
Kevin is the youngest child within a pretty massive American family who are going away for the Christmas hols. He behaves badly on the night before they travel and is sent to the attic room. In the confusion next morning he is forgotten and left behind, alone, as the rest of the family go off on their trip. By the time they realise, it's too late to go back for him and so the mother eventually starts to make her way back across America despite the inevitable probs.
Meanwhile Kevin is having a wild time at home, living the life that all kids would want if they were allowed and Culkin is actually okay in this role. Eventually, the house gets targeted by a couple of house breakers who suss out that he's actually on his own and start to plan their big job.
Unfortunately for them, our Kev is a pretty resourceful young chap and starts his one man army defence of the family castle with hilarious consequences (honestly, I'm being serious). It's slapstick humour at its best and you start to really feel sorry for the two hapless burglars as they undergo all manner of awful mistreatment at the hands of Kevin, including blowtorch to the head and broken glass to the feet.
Eventually, they manage to catch him and are about to have their dire revenge when the weirdo from next door arrives to end their little escapade - whew!
Oh yes, and Mummy makes it home in time for Xmas.

Slapstick mayhem with kids inflicting the ultimate retribution on les adults is always good for half an hour and the bad guys certainly go through it here. The dave27-ettes love this film and me and Mrs D are just glad it's Pesci and his mate copping the aggro rather than us.
I have to admit that I've seen Home Alone at least three or four times and it remains gloriously watchable if a little politically incorrect with the huge dollops of very violent action and all manner of pain being inflicted on the dopes...

================
Home Alone is undoubtedly one of the most profitable and popular movies of all time (currently sitting 36th in the most profitable charts. It's got nothing to do with amazing plots, special effects or Oscar winning performances. It's purely down to it being a very enjoyable and light hearted film, which appeals to a wider audience than what it was intended for. Even now in my 30s, I still enjoy watching Home ...

The undisputed star of "Home Alone" is Macaulay Culkin, who shot to fame as a result of this film. Considering there are big chunks of the movie where he is the only person on screen, he is likeable and entertaining enough to keep you watching. Culkin, as a kid, had something about him, some kind of weird childlike charisma and an infectious "fun" air ...

Home Alone, was a classic hit comedy film that was first released in 1991. Even in my adulthood, I am more than happy to watch the film again, and when I was a kid I use to remember watching this film a hundred times during the Christmas holidays and summer holidays. It was such a feel good family fun film; it was the sort of film that even if you’ve watched it once you would never gets bored watching it over and over again.
Plot:
The film opens ... ...Kevin.
Kevin realizes he is home alone, just like he had wished to his mother, and starts partying like a 8 years kid would. However, he soon realizes that Harry, the cop is really a crook who along with Marv break into peoples houses whilst they are on holiday. Will the family be able to get back to save Kevin, will the crooks succeed in breaking into the house or will Kevin have a trap waiting for the crooks.

...evil cynical reasons. You see, Home Alone to me is the most misunderstood movie out there. The central theme is basically child abuse, Kevin being hideously treated by his negligent parents and at Christmas at all times as they leave him to his own devices whilst they themselves go off to enjoy a holiday without him. Such despicable behaviour precedes the infliction of half an hour of extreme violence and torture upon a couple of burglars by the ... ...which means of course that Home Alone gains itself a release by Disney of all people and a PG rating by the board of censors...hahahaha!!! Umm OK, that’s probably not most people's take on the movie, but I'm telling you, I watched this movie again earlier for the first time in ages and its the most violent thing I have seen for a long time. Forget the scene in The Godfather where Marlon Brando's ...

Like HomeAlone 2 and 1 this film is available on both DVD and video. I saw the film on TV and therefore haven't bought my own copy but I did spot it in Tesco last week on video for £4.99 and DVD for £6.99 so a definite bargain and one to keep the kids entertained!
Who's it for?
I thoroughly enjoyed this film when I saw it because although it is not like the first two HomeAlone films and has none of the original cast it is well written, funny and lively. The acting is of a high standard and there is a bit of a plot that even adults can get there teeth into and will enjoy.
This is definitely a great movie for kids. I think the writer of this film is a bit like Roald Dahl in that he has found a way of making some quite violent actions through Alex become comedic and takes the danger out of them. Kids will definitely ...

Christmas songs ever" selection! As a result of growing up with HomeAlone, there are few Christmas songs that I can hear without being reminded of the corresponding scene in HomeAlone! (Especially Brenda Lee's 'Rocking Around The Xmas Tree'!)
Thankfully, although the HomeAlone franchise was continued (I believe there is a HomeAlone 3 and 4), the clever people at the DVD company have realised that we only really want to watch the first glorious 2 films (the ones with Macaulay Culkin), which are included in this set! So, if you are a child of the '90s and want to re-live some fond memories, then you should most definitely get hold of this set before Christmas time! ...
