I first saw Home Alone 3 last Christmas when it was on TV and I was off sick from work and I must admit that it was not at all what I had expected!
The first two Home Alone films (Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York) had been quite big blockbuster type films starring Macaulay Culkin, the latter having been released in 1992. The first two Home Alone films (Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York) had been quite big blockbuster type films starring Macaulay Culkin, the latter having been released in 1992. Some five years later in 1997 Home Alone 3 was released and I must admit that it was a bit of a shock when I released that it neither starred Culkin, nor was it based on the same characters as the first two films, the Macalistairs.
Having said that (!) once I started watching the film I thought that it was excellent with very high standards of acting and the Alex D. Linz who plays Alex Pruitt in the film is absolutely brilliant. He is an excellent actor who is brilliantly disarming as the seemingly innocent Alex!
Plot:
Without any of the original cats, Home Alone 3 centres around the story of Alex who stay home from school with Chicken Pox. Unfortunately his dad is away on business and his mum HAS to go into the office, leaving Alex home alone to guard the home.
Four high tech thieves are the villains here who are chasing a special micro chip that has been hidden on a remote control car. Mrs. Hess, Alex's neighbour has just returned form vacation and at the airport accidentally picks up the wrong Parisian shopping bag, containing the desperately needed remote control car.
As the four thieves try desperately to trace Mrs Hess, she is blissfully unaware of the danger she is in as the thieves track her down to the street where she lives. Only problem is the thieves do not know which house she lives in....
One by one the thieves begin to search all the homes in the neighbourhood, only they don't know that they are under the very watchful eye of Alex who is spying on them to fill up the long days at home.
Alex eventually figures out what the thieves are after and realises that he has what they are looking for as Mrs Hess gave Alex the remote control car for shovelling her driveway.
The race is then on for the thieves to attempt to get the car back from Alex, only he has other ideas! No matter what they try Alex has a plan to stop them and leaves lots of booby traps they Thai seem to fall for overtime, or do they???
Film facts:
Cast: Alex D. Linz .... Alex Pruitt Olek Krupa .... Peter Beaupre Rya Kihlstedt .... Alice Ribbons Lenny von Dohlen .... Burton Jernigan David Thornton .... Earl Unger Haviland Morris .... Karen Pruitt Kevin Kilner .... Jack Pruitt Marian Seldes .... Mrs. Hess Seth Smith .... Stan Pruitt Scarlett Johansson .... Molly Pruitt
I must admit that I have never actually heard of any of the people in the film! However, the performances are of a very high standard and the woman who plays Mrs Hess is brilliant and seems to have a real on screen spark with Alex.
The comic timing of the four thieves is brilliant too and they certainly know how to make the best of their facial expressions when being harangued by Alex!
Running time: 102 minutes
Made in: USA
Rating: Parental Guidance
Violence: There are bits of violence in the film but it more comedy type violence that kids will laugh at (and no doubt envy Alex's ingenuity!)
Language: None really
Directed by Raja Gosnell
Written by: John Hughes
Prices:
Like Home Alone 2 and 1 this film is available on both DVD and video. I saw the film on TV and therefore haven't bought my own copy but I did spot it in Tesco last week on video for £4.99 and DVD for £6.99 so a definite bargain and one to keep the kids entertained!
Who's it for?
I thoroughly enjoyed this film when I saw it because although it is not like the first two Home Alone films and has none of the original cast it is well written, funny and lively. The acting is of a high standard and there is a bit of a plot that even adults can get there teeth into and will enjoy.
This is definitely a great movie for kids. I think the writer of this film is a bit like Roald Dahl in that he has found a way of making some quite violent actions through Alex become comedic and takes the danger out of them. Kids will definitely identify and love this one!

Advantages: first two were good Disadvantages: not as appealing as the others
Home Alone 3 is an okay family movie, but it's not the same as Home Alone 1 & 2 were. First of all when you bring in a new lead actor in the 3rd film, it's not gonna be the same type of movie, because the kid is different and most importantly the bad guys are different. I mean how dumb do these bad guys have to be when they chase a remote control car and they can't catch up to it. At least in Home Alone 1 & 2 the plans were more believeable and fun ...

...doubts when I first saw Home Alone 3, first it had been about 5 years since the last home alone had been released, and second it did not have any of the original cast. I thought it would probably be a cheap knock off to make more money. But I found out quickly that I was wrong and that it was the best one yet. The reason I like this is the characters are a lot better. The parents and the rest of the family aren't complete idiots like Kevin’s, come ... ...your kid at home on a family vacation. Advantages: kids might enjoy it Disadvantages: boring, repetition of the previous films
If it wasn't a Home Alone film it would be okay but, dislike him you may, there is no substitute for McCauly Caulkin's cheeky little face and the avid persistance of Joe Pesci. The kid left alone theme wears a little bit thin but the children like it. Personally, I find there is something endearing about Home Alone 1 and 2 but, sorry, this film just does nothing for me.The story seems to be exactly the same as the first one,and the gags repeat themselves. The ...

Well he ends up in New York, and they travel to Florida.
One maxed-out credit card, police chase and fun-house of tricks later, the family are on the hunt for him in the city that never sleeps at the busiest time of the year.
Number 2 isn't as funny as the original but has some great gags, and as with the first has a genuinely touching end as a woman living on the streets has a Merry Christmas courtesy of Kevin (Culkin).

Advantages: excellent entertainment Disadvantages: last two aren't as good as first two
Absolutely outstanding entertainment and value for money is the only way I can put this, Mackauley Culkins fine performances in the first two episodes are second to none, it really is faultless, the main plot of all four films is that somehow or another the youngest kid in the family constantly finds himself lost/on his own, whether this be in his own home or in a major city like New York, the main plot follows this lad (Kevin) around as he strives to look after himself in the times he is away from his parents. In the first film this involves buying his daily food, cooking it and also discovering burglars want to rob his house, hence leading up to the funniest parts of the films where he has set traps to protect his house and the two dumb criminals Marve and Harry (the wet bandits) try to gain access to this house of treasures. The main ...

DVD Description
Producer-screenwriter John Hughes scores the HOME ALONE hat trick with this second sequel to the slapstick blockbuster, which now finds savvy school-ager Alex under siege by spies while quarantined at home with the chickenpox. Due to an airport mix-up, the spies' super-secret computer chip finds its way to Alex's quiet, tree-lined street, and only he can prevent its rightful owners from ransacking his house.
