Hi all, I've been on Ciao for a while but have only used it recently. It's a fab way to pass on experiences (my friends have long since stopped listening!). I'll have more time soon and intend to read & watch films so expect lots of reviews to come!

I bought The Holiday on Play.com as it was part of their Christmas Cracker sale with not a whole lot of expectations. I'd seen trailers for it at the cinema, it seemed harmless and I like Kate Winslet so I thought I'd go for it. I must admit that I am glad that I did.
Now don't get me wrong, this is not a life-altering piece of cinematography that will have you soul-searching for days, but it is a little bit of romantic fun that is definitely one for a girls night in.
You are introduced to your two leading ladies; Iris, a quintessential English Rose who lives in a little cottage, works in a newspaper in London and oh yes, is hopelessly in love with her colleague Jasper who seems to like trampling on her heart. Then we have Amanda, a highly strung, highly successful movie trailer editor who lives in LA and is equally as unsuccessful with her love life. On a flight of fancy, both decide to switch homes for the holidays in order to escape their respective lonliness.
Inevtiably, their sojourns to the other side of the world brings them into contact with just the right people and after a few laughs and a few tears the film is wrapped up with a typically heart-warming ending (with a real you-go-girl moment for Iris thrown in!).
The Holiday speaks to anyone who has ever fallen for someone who hasn't fallen quite so hard in return, and as I said before is perfect for a girls night in with a bottle of vino. It isn't particulary profound and it doesn't have any clever or shocking twists, it does simply what it is made to do; entertain you for the couple of hours it is on and leave you all warm inside (although that may just be that bottle of vino I mentioned earlier!).
Take it for what it is and you will enjoy it!
