Before we talk about the film itself lets talk about blu-ray. Blu ray discs can hold up to around 50gb which is a huge improvement from the standard dvd which can hold around 5 at the max. Blu rays work by using an incredibly thin laser to read the disc therefore more information can be stored on the disc resulting in a much higher picture and sound quality. Blu ray dvds will only work on a blu-ray dvd player or PS3 which is connected up to a HDTV to give it's maximum quality. The picture is around 6 times better than that of a normal SD dvd and although that doesn't sound like much trust me it is a huge difference. If you have blu ray dvd player and hdtv it is worth splashing out a bit more money for a blu ray dvd.
Will Smith has done a lot of various films such as I robot, Men in Black 1, 2, Bad boys 1,2, Wild Wild West etc. All of which have been great successes even the hit series Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. However we have never seen Will Smith in a mainly Romantic film. Until now.
Plot
Alex Hitchens (Hitch) works as a date doctor
in New York. Men always need help getting the right girl that they have been watching for months to notice them and get the confidence to ask them out. This is where Hitch comes in. He gives men helping advice for how to get the woman of their dreams to notice and like them. How is this done? Well Hitch uses various rules and guidelines which allow him to turn any average Joe into a full on Romeo.
This movie is not just Romantic no there is a lot of comedy thrown into the mix along with a bit of tragedy. When Hitch falls in love himself with a reporter for a newspaper he finds himself not following the rules himself. For instance kicking his date in the face while getting onto a jet ski. In my eyes this is not what you should do on a first date. But that’s just me. Other comical moments include Hitch being struck by food poisoning (OK it doesn't sound that funny but Will Smith can pull it off) his face then bloats up and in the end Hitch ends up getting high on medication. Hilarious.
Surely Hitch has met his match when he has to get Albert Brennaman (Kevin James from King of Queens) to go out with a celebrity Allegra Coles (Amber Valleta) This cannot be done can it? It seems impossible but Hitch gets Allegra to notice and go out on a date with Albert, not realising that everything Hitch had told Albert not to do he did and that is what Allegra liked about him. Then came the kiss at the door. Another hilarious moment involves Hitch teaching Albert how to kiss. 90% you then she has to go the last 10%. If she messes about with her keys then she wants to be kissed. At the end of Allegra and Albert’s date yep she fiddles with her keys and does Albert kiss her. The hell he doesn't. He gets too nervous and walks away while having an asthma attack. But then he suddenly gets the courage and throws his inhaler away and rushes up to kiss her. It is at this moment when you are saying "God this is so cheesy" but you will love it because that is why it is so funny.
Things start to go wrong when Hitch's girlfriend Sera Melas the news reporter finds out what Hitch really does for a living and exposes him in the newspaper. I could go on but I don't want to ruin the story for you.
Actors
Of course with Will Smith acting you know the quality has to be good but not only is he there, there are also other well known actors such as Kevin James who you will probably know from King of Queens as is a perfect nerd in the film. Other quite well known actors include Amber Valeta from Our house and Perfume and Eva Mendes who you may recognise from Will Smith's other film Training Day and also in 2 Fast 2 Furious.
Special effects
This being a Romantic comedy set in this day and age there aren’t many special effects to talk about, as there doesn’t need to be. But all I can say is that the lighting is good.
To conclude
Overall this is a hilarious film which can be viewed by the whole family. Perfect for a night in with the kids or even to watch at a big family get together. You will not only watch this film once either. Highly recommend this movie for anyone who likes to laugh but be warned you may cry as well if you are one of the sensitive type.
