I love, love, love this film and I cannot rate it enough, I read the book a year or so ago and it's almost exactly like the book (apart from the setting - as I've been reminded), its just absolutely brilliant!!
Rob Gordon (John Cusack) is the owner of a semi-failing record store. He sells the old-fashioned way, on vinyl, with his two clerks - the hysterically funny rock snob Barry (Jack Black) and the more quietly opinionated Dick (Todd Louiso). But Rob's business isn't the only thing in his life that's floundering due to Rob's unwillingness to accept change his longtime girlfriend Laura (Iben Hjejle) has walked out on him. This triggers him into examining his past failed relationships in the only way he knows how....this doesn't have the best consequences in some cases but others make him realise things he should have done years ago.
This film is hysterically funny and so true to life, any man I watch this with, seems to sit though it nodding along with Rob. This film is just great from start to finish.
John Cusacks performance is brilliant, this film truly shows his talent to be a sharp actor. Iben Hjejle who plays Laura, I wasn't too impressed with, her acting at time just didn't seem real enough for me, she is really beautiful to look at though. Jack Black made the film for me, every single line of his had me in stitches and I have yet to see him play a more suitable role than Barry, I would recommend this film just to watch him he's truly hilarious!
I would recommend this film to anyone, I know men and women who have chosen this film as their favorite and I have no qualms as to why! Also if you haven't already I would recommend reading the book!
