Hi-5 Alive are touring the UK and they are coming to Edinburgh said my Sister in law. Having seen a few progammes, I looked into the prices and decided against it. But after a friend told me she was wanting to get tickets for herself, me and our 2 daughters I decided to go.

So what is Hi-5? Originating in Australia and introduced to the Uk through Milkshake the morning kids programmes on Channel 5 and Uk Living TV. This consists on 5 cast members! 3 Gorgeous stunning women who make all mums cringe at wobbly bits, Charli, Kellie and Kathleen, make up teh stunning trio and are fabulous dancers as well as singers. They are joined by 2 not so bad looking men (me and my friend wanted to take one each home.) Tim and Nathan. They remind me of an older version of S Club 7, except aimed at children.

Their shows on TV last about 30 minutes and consist of singing, dancing, stories etc. It's sort of like watching a pop group aimed at pre-school children. All the stories and songs are aimed at children with a lot of adult humour mixed in. They are joined by 2 puppets Jup Jup (looked like an octopus but alien like) who always winds Kathleen up when she is doing something important, and Chatterbox is a jack in the box, who chats away to Kellie.

I'm always a bit dubious when TV shows decide to take to the stage as it can be a major hit or a complete disaster. Hi-5 in my opinion were excellent as a stage show and it was much better than watching them on TV. My friend commented on the fact the for all the under 5's who were present at the show, it was probably like us going to see Take That as a teenager or our mums going to see Elvis.

When you entered the Theatre, You were hit by the colourfulness of the stage. I always feel that the way you find the stage will be the way you will see the show. Finally the lights went down a bit and suddenly bursting on to stage were the Hi-5 Gang. The music and the dancing and the whole atmmosphere had the children dancing away and made me and my friend want to get up and dance too.

The show was a longer version of the TV show. A few familar songs and steps and actions to the songs were done along with dressing up and getting the audience to participate in dancing, singing, shouting. Familar Characters such as Super Nathan and Captain Baggy pants were there doing stories. The Hi-5 gang showed the actions before singing the songs and encouraged everyone to join in. They frequently waved at the children dancing at the front of the stage who were dancing.

Some people may find them cheesy and think that they are overgrown kids. But personally they are energetic, and encourage the children to get up and dance and sing. This then encourages children to dance and keep fit by doing dancing. They make you want to get up and my friend and I joked that it would be an excellent keep fit video. The attitudes of the children were very positive. They got very excited when they saw them and that was great to see. After a terrible outing to Bear recently, it was great to see all the children captivated and their attentions held for so long.

If you haven't seen it then check it out on Channel 5's in the mornings, or at 9.25am on UK Living. We've now bought the DVD from Woolworths at £12.99 due to the fact that the merchandise was highly priced. A Hat with flashing lights cost £8 and video's and DVD's were £12 and £16 respectively. My friend said that there was rucksacks as well as tops but there was not much at all. Programmes set us back £3.50 but was a great sticker book too!

Overall although it was £54 for 4 tickets, Hi-5 was one of the best shows I have ever seen as a parent. I asked Eilidh what she thought (she hadn't wanted to go) and she can't wait until they tour again. I can guess what we'll have to watch every morning from now on!

This household is committed to Hi-5 ! Steve (the husband) has a major soft spot for Charli, as does Alexander (the 2½ year old). I quite like Tim... and we all giggle at the exuberant Nathan doing his dancing! I think Hi-5 should be a staple for children's TV, in the same way as Balamory, Teletubbies or Tweenies. There is so much for the child to enjoy and it's a learning experience for the parents too. If you haven't seen them on TV, please do so. We'll definitely take Alexander when he's older.... they're great!

I see them on living tv, just before the golden girls come on.

my little girl was poorly and we missed the show at Wembley this year, sounds like we would have enjoyed ourselves. Have you got the CD? My little boy made me buy it, honest.
