Maybe that has confused you more than ever but I am not going to give much of the actual story away. You will have to watch and see. I really don't think you will be disappointed.

Imagine a world where there live a subspecies of the human race that possess amazing abilities.
Imagine those gifted souls are hunted, abused and feared. Feared as much by themselves as the human race at large.
Imagine this select group can save the world from catastrophe or be the cause of the destruction.
Imagine they don't know which side they are on or even that they are involved in a war.
Imagine how alone they are, feeling they are the only ones who can do such feats, knowing they must hide their abilities or be reviled by their peers.
Imagine that all these people's stories are connected and will lead them all to one combined destiny.
Imagine all this, add in a serial killer, the shadowy Mr Linderman and "The Company" and that is what is in store for them and for you as you watch Heroes.
Save the cheerleader, save the world
A compelling thought that runs through much of the series. Series? Personally I would class it more of a serial, as the story continues and it wouldn't really be possible to watch selected episodes, and expect to know what is happening without having seen the previous ones. The series (serial) was first shown on the sci-fi channel and then BBC 2 in this country. Needless to say we are somewhat behind the USA as they have already seen series two.
The story, where do I start? There is such a tangle of interwoven storylines that it is so hard to enter into a description. Sounds confusing, well I suppose it is and it really shouldn't work, but it does and does in spectacular fashion. As the story unfolds the links become clearer. You will find yourself closer fathoming out what fits where in a logical fashion and that is a masterstroke by Tim Kring, who with his team have created a very popular programme that has received many awards in it's first series.
Characters (actor alphabetical order)
Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera) You should see his eyes when he paints.
Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman) You had better watch to see where he fits in.
Simone Deveaux (Tawney Cypress) mmm difficult one !!
Micah Sanders (Noah Gray-Cabey) Don't let him near a cashpoint.
Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) Watch what you're thinking.
Niki Sanders (Ali Larter) A woman of two halves.
Ando Masahashi (James Kyson Lee) heart of a lion, ability of a mouse.
Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) Time and space hold no bounds.
Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) healing looks so painful.
Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) Politicians aren't all the same, quite.
Sylar (Zachary Quinto) Don't lose your head around this one.
Mohindar Suresh ( Sendhil Ramamurthy) How is he going to sort this lot out.
DL Hawkins ( Leonard Roberts) Isn't going to let a wall stop him
Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) Save the cheerleader but watch the glow.
These are the main characters although there are many more in the series that put in guest appearances such as Christopher Eccleston (Dr Who) who appears in a few episodes. Not many household names in that cast, but they all put in pretty impressive performances and I am sure we will hear much more of at least some of them in other projects. That said I hope they can keep the cast together for series to come. You will quite quickly identify with many of the characters and their struggles although there will be some surprises along the way. If you have watched or do watch, my little additions will make sense.
Sum up the series in a few sentences.
Virtually impossible but here goes. New York will be laid waste by a nuclear explosion that only certain people can stop. The future is painted by the white eyed man. Can it be true? If they can live long enough maybe our heroes can stop it, unless they don't want to. Maybe that has confused you more than ever but I am not going to give much of the actual story away. You will have to watch and see. I really don't think you will be disappointed.
The DVD's
This is the first half of the first series. It is in the form of a double box set containing a total of four discs (two in each box.) The discs contain episodes one to eleven plus a never before seen on TV pilot episode. Also extras include exclusive deleted scenes and items on special effects and how the series was made. These are interesting to fans but are nothing out of the ordinary when compared to other series. After watching these episodes you are certainly going to want to know what happens which will mean investing in the second half. With that in mind I would suggest that buying the complete series box set would make better economic sense. Maybe buying the single episode Heroes Genesis would be even better, make your mind up from that before making the investment of £24.98 (Amazon) for this set. All sets are also also available at most DVD retailers.
Suitability.
The series has a 15 rating on the DVD. There are gory scenes that are going to be unsettling for younger viewers, or older ones of a timid disposition for that matter. To be honest it is a complicated story that younger viewers could well find difficult to follow anyway.
Star rating.
I would love to give it a full five stars, for the series itself, it most certainly deserves it. For me being only half the series does cause me to lop off a star purely because buying the whole series is better value and will save a trip to the video store.
Advantages: Very entertaining, good plot and characters Disadvantages: Don't buy this DVD - buy the whole series.
...find out what happens next! Heroes is a programme that I always heard great things about and always wanted to try, but since until recently all the DVDs were unreasonably expensive, I only got to watch it for the first time last week. I’m not sure how legal it is to watch TV shows online without paying, but since all episodes of Heroes are available to watch on NBC.com if you live in the United States, I don’t feel too bad about watching them elsewhere ... ...down the line anyway! Heroes is a science fiction series, with the premise being that there are some people in the world who have special abilities that us normal people don’t have. Examples include a Japanese man who can bend space and time, a woman in Texas who can remember everything that she reads, and a man in New York City who can paint the future. The prominent geneticist Dr Suresh has been investigating these people and if there is a way ...

Quick review of Heroes - Series 1 Vol. 1 (DVD)
Originally aired in America on NBC in 06. Heroes made its way to the UK on BBC for summer 07. A dramatic, dark science fiction series. Various people across the world discover they can do incredible things, but just because you have power doesn't mean you'll use it for good. Well written with plot lines and mysteries weaving together to make an intriguing and addictive series. If you like superhero films, then this series is a very different take on what a hero is. If you don't, then this an exciting and unique series that's worth taking a risk on with plot and characters that have real depth.
The first part of the series drops us in at the deep end as secrets find the characters, people are found murdered, the world is in danger and the future seems to hang in the balance. One of the best and most original series since Firefly. ...

Advantages: Action, Superpowers, Sci - fi Disadvantages: Some killings, betrayal . . .
Heroes is a TV series about ordinary people with extraordinary abilities! This series reminds me of X-men, although not exactly the same as X-men but the idea is somewhat similar. The first season is more like an introduction of the characters. In here, specific individuals learn that they have special abilities or powers such as being able to heal, control time, fly, read people's minds and absorb other powers. In any hero movies, there is always ... ...It somehow gives a message that heroes are present in every part of the world. As for the special effects, it is average, not exactly something that will leave you at awe but it doesn't look fake either!
I suggest you go watch it and be your own critic! ...

DVD Description
Combining comic book style and geeky in-jokes, HEROES is a stellar series that draws comparisons to fan favuorites such as LOST and THE X-FILES. But thanks to its well-drawn characters and intricate plot, this drama reels in more than just superhero fans. HEROES revolves around the premise of seemingly ordinary people developing fantastic powers. There's Claire (Hayden Panettiere, ICE PRINCESS), a cheerleader who can't be killed. Matt (Greg Grunberg, ALIAS) is a cop who can read minds. New Yorker Peter (Milo Ventimiglia, GILMORE GIRLS) has the power to adopt other heroes' abilities, while his politician brother (Adrian Pasdar, JUDGING AMY) has a special power of his own. Though the show boasts many other characters, its secret weapon is Hiro (Masi Oka), a Japanese office worker who is delighted to discover he can move through space and time. But heroes wouldn't be heroes if there weren't villains and a coming apocalypse to fight.
