ranging from a teenager to thirty-somethings, who suddenly discover they possess superpowers. Drug-addict artist Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera) can paint disturbingly accurate pictures of the future -- but only when he is intoxicated; cop Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg) is able to hear other people's thoughts; single mother Niki Sanders (Ali Larter) seems to have a super-strong, violent alter ego; Japanese comic-book fanatic Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) has the capacity to make time stand still or travel through time; 17-year-old cheerleader Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere) is apparently indestructible; politician Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) has the power of flight; his brother, male hospice nurse Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) can absorb the powers of others around him. Brought together to try to prevent an impending horrific disaster in New York City, these novice (and often reluctant) superheroes are forced to cope with their new skills and to hopefully channel them for a common purpose of good, all the while being plagued with surrealistic flashbacks and weighted down with traumatic back-stories. This collection features the first three series of the popular TV show.

Heroes follows the lives of many interconnected people, all with special abilities, who seem to be taking the next step in human evolution. They all have some part to play in an ultimate destiny in which they must save the world.
This is a difficult one to review, mainly because it has so many characters and quite a complicated plotline. I'll start by explaining the characters and their abilities.

Main Characters and Plot
Claire Bennet (Hayden Panettiere - Ally McBeal, Malcolm in the Middle) is a high school cheerleader who lives with her adopted parents in Odessa, Texas. Claire becomes increasingly curious about her biological parents after discovering she has amazingly extensive powers of regeneration. She can jump from great heights and repair all injuries within seconds. Claire tries to hide these powers from her adopted family, however her adopted father knows more than she could imagine.
Noah Bennet (Jack Coleman - interestingly is descended from Benjamin Franklin!) is Claire's adopted father. He appears to be an average businessman, specialising in paper. However he hides a secret from his family that threatens them all. He has a mysterious aquaintance known only as "The Haitian" (Jimmy Jean-Louis).
Mohinder Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is a brilliant genetic scientist grappling with the recent murder of his father, noted geneticist and author of "Activating Evolution" Chandra Suresh. Mohinder had a difficult relationship with his father with them disagreeing over his fathers theories. Chandra's theories however, were absolutely correct, there were indidviduals across the globe who had taken the next step in human evolution. Mohinder discovers his father's work was legitimate, and works to complete it.
Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) is a geeky, misguided, naive office worker who has the power to bend the space time continum. Hiro lives in a bit of a fantasy world. However he is very brave, and genuinely believes his power carries a great responsibility. Hiro is by far my favourite character. He has a lovable charm that is irrestible. I'm sure many women have a maternal instinct towards him! Almost as lovable as Hiro is his loyal best friend Ando (James Kyson Lee), who accompanies Hiro on his adventures, although he is intially dubious. This pair have great comedy value as a bit of an odd couple!
Peter Petrelli (Milo Ventimiglia) is a nurse for the terminally ill. Peter life begins to change when he starts having dreams that he can fly. He begins to believe that his purpose in life is to do something great. He steps off a high building to test if he can fly (personally I'd start with a garden wall or something but that wouldn't be as dramatic I guess!) but he falls. Peter's congressman brother Nathan (Adrian Pascar) is in the alley below and it turns out Nathan can fly, so he saves his brother from certain death. Peter later discovers his gift is to absorb/copy the gifts of others, possibly making him the most powerful individual of all. Nathan is not as embracing as Peter of his gift, knowing that if it were public knowledge it would ruin him. Peter and Nathan are the sons of Angela Petrelli (Cristine Rose), who herself has a mysterious past. Their father is dead of an apparent suicide.
When Heroes begins, Peter is the nurse caring for the terminally ill Charles Deveaux, father of Simone Deveaux (Tawny Cypress). Peter and Simone are attracted to eaxh other. This is awkward because Simone is trying to extricate herself from a destructive relationship with artist Isaac Mendez (Santiago Cabrera) who has a serious drug addiction. Isaac can paint the future when he is under the influence of heroin.
Niki Sanders (Ali Larter - Final Destination) is a single mum struggling to pay the bills and look after her son Micah (Noah Grey-Cabey) while her husband D.L. (Leonard Roberts) is in jail. Niki is also suffering from a very unique case of split personality.
Matt Parkman (Greg Grunberg - Alias) is an average cop with marital problems. He is trying to make detective but has been hindered in his exams because of his dyslexia. He begins to hear people's thoughts, which enables him to rescue a little girl, Molly Walker (Adair Tishler), whose parents have murdered.
The person responsible for killing Molly's parents is serial killer Sylar (Zachary Quinto). A talented watch repairman once known as Gabriel Gray, he is traced by Chandra Suresh who tells him he may have special powers. Sylar later discovers that if he can locate others with special abilities, and ingest their brains, he can gain the abilities for himself. This was the unfortunate fate of Molly's parents. Sylar is extremely dangerous, growing in power with every victim he murders.
The cast continues to grow, constantly adding new character with new abilities, such as Adam Monroe (David Anders - Alias). However I have only described characters from the first season.
As the plot unfolds, more and more links between the characters are uncovered. Between them, the Heroes begin to learn of their destiny, and what they must do to save the world.

This series is definately worth a watch but don't bother unless you start at the beginning - it's so complicated you will be lost. The acting and scripts are of a very high standard, I would say the hype is justified. It's quite unlike most things on T.V. at the moment and it does prove quite addictive. Lets hope the writers can keep the high quality in the third series.
Advantages: Great concept. Good characters and great plot Disadvantages: The ending left me feeling a little disappointed as it was slightly weak
I missed this the first time it was shown on the Sci-Fi channel and after hearing rave reviews about it i made sure a caught it second time around on BBC2 (I set SKY+ to record it all for me!!)
What a wonderful series this was - i enjoyed every minute of it. The basic concept behind this was brilliant, a group of 'ordinary' people brought together by a set of what would appear unlinked circumstances. These people have 'special powers', making them ... ...most part) instantly likable. Throughout the series and as they develop you gain a good understanding of them and how strange and confusing it must be being in their situation, discovering you have 'superhero-like' powers. (It must be fun too though!!!!!)
The plot had me wondering at time where exactly the storyline was going to and how certain elements all tied in to each other. However, by the end the majority of the 'loose ends' were tied up ...

Advantages: Fast action original series Disadvantages: none
Heroes hit our screens in a shot of fast action and special effects, telling about a group of normal people who have developed special powers its like a modern day marvel comic in real life. With a very scary villan and most o the normal people hating them this colletion of great charecters battle there way through to prevent the city being blown up.
The super powers range from flying to being able to heal themselves and some scenes are very graphic ... ...a much longer indepth plot.
Heroes 1 is avalible as a complete box set or 2 different part boxsets,in my opinion this commplete box set is better value for money and is avalible on amazon starting around £21.99 its rated as a 15 and there are some gory scenes ,this boxset is well worth the money and i highly recommend it,its a refreshing new series thats truley compelling to watch. ...

Advantages: Absolutely Fantastic Disadvantages: May take a while to watch
I heard about Heroes quite a while ago from a friend in the states. After waiting a while and watching a few trailers on the show I couldn't wait for it to come on the television. So as soon as it came onto the Sci-Fi channel I began to watch it. I loved it right from that start. The fact that there are so many different characters all wanting something. The characters powers are always interesting especially Peter Petrelli's. The mix of effects ... ...It leaves you wanting more after each episode.
===Main Story===
The main story line of the first season is "Save the cheerleader save the world". After watching a few episodes it makes more sense. Some scenes may be too violent for young children as it can involve horrific deaths.
In England, the new second series has started on BBC 2 9.00pm on Thursdays. Now the question is, is it as good as the first series? ...

Advantages: Another show to second and guess Disadvantages: Not quite as unmissable as others
of the show is what made me want to try and garner interest. Flicking in and out of the show as it was repeated over and over on opening week, there just seemed to be too much happening. First impressions are everything, and my first impressions were that I was never going to understand a thing.
Giving up on Heroes, what would be the one best thing that could happen? BBC picking up the show no doubt, and this gave a whole new audiance the chance to watch a hugely popular American television series for the first time since you-know-what on Channel4. Whilst I would have to argue with the fact that Heroes is more than qualified to carry BBC1, airing it on BBC2 was good enough to open the show up to other members of my family - and unusually, I actually had a drama to talk about with my father. Surely a change of network can't be enough to ...

Heroes has proved itself to be the most compelling, addictive hourly drama of the 2006-07 season (Radio Times, 08/11/2007)
DVD Description
Combining comic book style and geeky in-jokes, HEROES is a stellar series that draws comparisons to fan favourites such as LOST and THE X-FILES. But thanks to its well-drawn characters and intricate plot, this drama reels in more than just superhero fans. HEROES revolves around the premise of seemingly ordinary people developing fantastic powers. There's Claire (Hayden Panettiere, ICE PRINCESS), a cheerleader who can't appear to be injured or killed. Matt (Greg Grunberg, ALIAS) is a cop who can read minds. New Yorker Peter (Milo Ventimiglia, ROCKY BALBOA) has the power to adopt other heroes' abilities, while his politician brother (Adrian Pasdar, JUDGING AMY) has a special power of his own. Though the show boasts many other characters, its secret weapon is Hiro (Masi Oka), a Japanese office worker who is delighted to discover he can move through space and time. But heroes wouldn't be heroes if there weren't villains and a coming apocalypse to fight. Features the complete first series.
