Breathtaking...as corny as that sounds it's the first thing that comes to mind when i think about this film!!!
The film is set in ancient China when the country was still split - into six kingdoms - and focuses on the kingdom of Qin, it's king and his many enemies as he looks to take control of everything. I dont want to give to much away about the plot, however it is basically Jet Li's character(unnamed!!!) telling the King how he managed to overcome three deadly assassins to protect the kings empire. What follows are amazing scenes as the story is told to the audience in pictures but that is not all, there are twists and turns in the plot as the king picks apart the story!
All the characters in the film are played brilliantly, with the supporting actors giving just as much as Jet Li does throughout the whole film. The script is superb as is the direction and im honestly finding it hard to find faults with it.Although for people who maybe get confused with plots should be a little weary as it does switch from past to present and versions of the truth often. Now no doubt this film will be compared to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and while it is as visually breathtaking it is a completley different story in a different time. And yes to some people the fights are 'too unbelievable' , however i think this is a poor thing to comment on, the fighting is unbelievable yes but in the way you just cant believe what your seeing - i smiled through the whole film!!!
It may not be everyones choice of film but to anyone who likes martial arts, action,a great story or honk-kong films and appreciates the behind the scenes stuff like direction, script etc i fully recommend. To everyone else just watch it and make up your mind, you may be pleasently surprised.
