along with Collateral, Heat is one of director Michael Mann's LA love stories. the city itself is as much a character in the film as De Niro or Pacino, beautifully photographed (entirely shot on location) and exploited for some magnificent imagery. plotwise, the film focusses on a team of high-tech thieves (led by De Niro), pursued by over-zealous policemen (led by Pacino). from the off, it is clear that a showdown will occur at some point, this being the first film featuring both Pacino and De Niro onscreen together. Mann skillfully holds this off until the third act, building tension via meandering subplots that will all be tied up by the time the credits roll. as the cat-and-mouse pursuit ensues, a number of incredible action sequences will wow you, picking up the film before it has a chance to drag (with a run time of 163 minutes, its a wonder the film never feels stale). those bored of modern action sequences that overuse wire work and slo-mo to monotonous effect, the grittiness and realism inherent to Heat will be infinitely more refreshing than another matrix-clone. with performances that astound at every turn, Heat redefines the action-thriller and irritates at the same time. timeless and classic, this sort of film-making should be second-nature to todays supposed A-listers, yet it isnt. and thats the only bad point to Heat
I agree here with the previous member's comments. Whilst its all good that you have mentioned the synposis, your own thoughts about the film would be good to read as well as any special effects, quality of acting, music; aspects which make up a film. Also it would be easier to the eye if you spaced out your review too. If you update let me know.
