Heat was a reamake of LA Takedown, released in the mis 1908s (I hadnt actually seen it), but after watching just had to. The cast of Heat is fantastic with De Niro and Pacino commanding, and I say commanding, centre stage. Add add Val Kilmer, Jon Voight and a few other well known actors and you hae the receipe for a quality flick. It is easy to put this film into your typical cops and bad guys category, but Heat goes a lot further - you get to see De Niro's character as a clever, calculating robber but at the same time a lonely and sometimes vunerable man. On the flip side you see Pacino an a cop 'on the edge', estranged from his ex wife and chasing down robbers like De Niro. This gives the film a sort of quality not often see in action films. You feel for both De Niro and Pacino in their respectives roles as criminal and cop. The pace of the film is not as fast and as violent as other action films so you get a chance to see the characters in their own lives. That is not to say the action side of things is missing!!! The gun fight on the streets of LA is fantastic. The only downside of the film i can think of is that it may be a bit long for those who prefer the shorter film. However, once you start watching you will be glued all the way through.......and the ending is brilliant!! The DVD quality is fantastic and the sound is great but those of you that like your extras will be dissapointed as the copy i bought doesnt have any.
