He's just not that into you is based on the best selling book by Greg Behrendt and Liz Tuccillo. It is about a 9 twenty and thirty-something's trying to find romance and keep their romances. The central person is Gigi who is an optimistic woman on an eternal search for Mr Right.
Gigi and Alex The film begins with Gigi on a date with Conor, she thinks it goes well but then never hears from him.... trying to accidently bump into him she goes to a bar that she knows he regularly visits, there she meets his friend, Alex. Alex guilds us and Gigi through the dating advice of He's just not that into you. Alex tells us that if a guy is interesting he will make sure you know, and if he isn't interested enough to let you know and call you, then he's not worth spending the time waiting around for. Why settle for someone who doesn't really know if he wants to be with you. He also tells her that she should stop thinking that she is an exception to this rule, and to stop obsessing over every "sign" she picks up on.
I like this idea and this is what made the film enjoyable for me... I want to be with a guy who can not wait to see me again.
Janine, Ben, and Anna Gigi's co-worker Janine thinks she is happily married to Ben, but difficulties are beginning to show in her marriage. Ben meets Anna in a shop and begins an affair... It is revealed that Ben and Janine got married because she gave him an ultimatum, and didn't ever really want to get married.
Conor and Anna Conor, Gigi's first date, is totally smitten with Anna, who is having the affair with Ben (see above), we learn that Anna and Conor occasionally sleep together but are just friends although Conor wants more.
Mary Anna's friend Mary is trying all variations of online dating, she meets many men (mostly online) but all end unsuccessfully. Like Gigi she continues in her pursuit of Mr Right.
Beth and Neil Gigi's other co-worker, Beth has been with her boyfriend Neil for 7 years, but Neil doesn’t believe in marriage. Beth wants to get married, and as she watches her sisters all marry and live happily ever after she begins to wonder if she can settle for a marriage-less relationship.

From the films beginning with a little girl being told that when a boy bullies you in the play ground it is because he liked you, I knew this was one I would like. This is the film through and through, why do we kid ourselves that when the object of our affection is mean to us, or throughless or just absent it means that really they like us, they are scared of their feelings, etc, etc. Alex provides excellent words of wisdom on this topic, if a guy wants to call he will call, if the girl you like is sleeping with someone else then they aren't worth your time thinking about, if he is married then he isn't worth bothering with. Alex states that we are not the exception to the rule we are the rule! However, as he eventually proves what we actually all need is our exception - the guy that might mess up but goes out of his way to prove he cares, the guy that calls when he says he will, the guy who marries you because he knows it wil make you happy, and that is all he really wants. This film is funny, charming but at the heart is a chick flick - perfect for me and my friends, might not be so perfect for everyone.
I saw it at the cinema and loved it - I am not sure it is a film I'd watch over and over again, but it is definitely a good rental to watch with the girls.
