It's the end of Harry's miserable summer with the Dursley's and things are about to get even worse with the arrivable of a troublesome House elf by the name of Dobby. But that's just the beginning. Back at Hogwarts something strange is happening and it's up to Harry and his interfering little posse to sort it out. The acting from the children has improved considerably this time around. It's still not perfect, but it can be forgiven. The adult cast just keeps getting better though. The usual suspects are still there (Maggie Smith, Alan Rickman, Richard Harris, Julie Walters) plus a few more in the shape of Mark Williams (fantastic turn as Arthur Weasley), Jason Isaacs as the loathsome Lucious Malfoy and the always wonderful Kenneth Brannagh as the foppish Professor Lockhart. (tip: skip through the end credits for a pleasent little suprise to round off the film).
Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets is an incredibly enjoyable film, for both children and adults alike. However, as with the Philosopher's Stone dvd, this one also falls short where actual disc content is concerned. You have the obligatory subtitles and trailers, but when it comes to the second disc, it's rather light on extras. The special features consist of a tour of Dumbledore's office and a selection of short interviews with the cast. This is the main problem. You navigate your way to the cast section and select a question from a list, which gives you the choice of answer from the children/students or the adults/teachers. This is quite a nice feature, although, the interviews are much too short. It's hard to grasp what the making of the film was really like. Another downfall is the lack of actor/director commentary. Most forget that this is often the most interesting part of a dvd. Maybe i've been spoiled for dvd's because of Peter Jackson's masterpiece that is the Extended Edition of Fellowship Of The Ring.
The lack of features certainly don't take away from the film itself, it's still as enjoyable as it was in the cinema, and that alone is worth the purchase, however, if you are expecting a great amount of interesting extras, then maybe the dvd just isn't for you. Best to wait and see if they eventually bring out collectors editions with much more material.

I must be one of the only people I know who's never read or seen any Harry Potter! I must, I really must!

Hmm, I think you're right Andy. I wasn't really sure anyone would want to read a review of the film again, since i'm sure they've read a million of them, so I chose to concentrate on the dvd itself. But you're right. I should probably summarize the story a little better. Thanks for the constructive crit. Since it's my first review, I need as much as I can get:)
