Producer: Nick Symons, Spencer Millman and Richard Allen Turner. Writers; Harry Hill, Brenda Gilhooly, Paul Hawksbee, Dan maier and David Quantick. Presented by Harry Hill Aired on ITV (usually on a Saturday early evening just before 'You've been framed', which is also hosted by Harry Hill.
* BRIEF IDEA
This comical look at television programmes, hosted by the very funny Harry Hill, began its life in December 2001 and is still running to date, producing nearly 80 half hour episodes split into 8 series, (including the pilot show and four special episodes)
It is a simple idea of a mocking the previous weeks television programs, by means of voice overs and quick sketches, usually soaps such as Eastenders, Coronation street or Emmerdale, but will have a go at any program at all, leaving nothing safe from the tongue in cheek comments coming from the hair deprived ring master with the rather large shirt collars. As I said, no show is safe from the sarcastic comments from the funny bald one, including such 'serious' programs as Freaky eaters, which Harry did make into a weekly sketch show for a while.
There are many
little sketches which Harry prides himself on using in each show, such as…
*TV highlight of the week…which looks at a snippet of television programming which is seen as a 'highlight', although it is usually something so dull and boring it is totally laughable. Although sometimes this is replaced with other sketches such as TV expert of the week, TV voice over of the week, most elaborate dog wee of the week or even I beg your pardon of the week… each one as stupidly comical as each other, especially with the voice over of the brilliant Harry Hill.
*Fight… which consists of Harry introducing two separate items, which can be anything form a mole to a pork pie, with him asking "which one is better….?.. There's only one way to find out…. Fight…"
* The many faces of Louis Walsh… which looks at the many faces which Louis pulls and puts one into a category each weeks ( although this was only during the X factor show being aired)
* TV Burp Poetry corner…which consists of a piece of speech with-in a program rhymes in some way…
Also… during the shows watch out for Harry as he 'acts out' a particular scene involving some program during the week… appearing in each little sketch in the way only he can do… including such things as being the other person on the other end of the phone, usually pretending to be the banker from Deal or no deal… or any other body who as taken a phone call during the weeks shooting.
During each show there are also some little reoccurring characters, such as a shark which appears from any where and a blue Smurf who makes regular visits through out.
* IN CONCLUSION…
When I first heard of Harry Hill back in 1990's I found him about as funny as a fart in a space suit … I couldn't get into his type of humour, So I was a little sceptical when, in 2001, I read he was to host a new comedy show called TV Burps… but I thought I'd give it a go as I had nothing better to do…and what a transformation I found Harry Hill had had… Although he looked the same as I remember him, when I didn't find him funny at all, with his thick black rimmed glasses, dodgy suit and very wide, wing like collars on his shirt… he seemed to have become a lot more comical, with some rather brilliant one liners and a much improved sense of humour…. I have to admit I was very impressed by the 'new' styled comedy of this man, who really did make this show his own right from the start.
Harry Hill's TV Burps is indeed a brilliant comical program for all the family to enjoy without fear of being offended, unless you feel an over sized fish fighting a squid is offensive..? Although some of his comments may contain a few innuendos they will fly over a younger childs head… maybe leaving you having explain to your youngest one why every one is laughing at what the bald man has just said..??
Harry Hill does a brilliant job with his voice overs and his little sketches when rein acting some scenes from the previous weeks soap operas… giving his unique version of how the scene 'could' have ended, usually involving him in a wig holding some from of slapstick weapon…
That is it… it is such a simple format that it works brilliantly well, there are no special effect, just some very badly 'spliced' in actor doubles… (usually Harry in suit)… taking revenge on some one or other, but all done in the best possible taste, which is simply hilarious.
In all, it is worth watching and, for most people, it can become a little addictive, waiting for the next episode to see who Harry will rip into with his unique wit and brilliant sarcastic repartee.
Give it a go… even if you don't think Harry is Funny… you may be surprised, I know I was…
* You can get Harry Hill's TV Burps gold, which is a compilation of the shows best bits, from www.amazon.co.uk for less than £8.00, this DVD is a good hour of entertainment and, apart form the main show, consist of some outtakes, unseen scenes, and some of the best 'fights'… BUT… the actual quality of the DVD is not to brilliant in parts, (for some reason), although it is still worth watching for the humour alone.

Great review! I'm with you on this one - I was not a fan of Harry Hills at all to begin with but now I really look forward to the TV Burp. I find myself watching programmes and thinking 'Harry will take the piss out of that' !!
