I can't begin to tell you how awfully awful this film is. I have never seen the Prequel and I didn't choose to watch this either. A friend of mine put it on and as I had not much else to do, I decided I would watch it.
I have to say though, as I am reviewing this, I'm not really a fan of the american style 'comedy' films and so possibly my view of this film is more pessimistic as other views.
If you find un-politically-correct films that poke fun at just about anything you are sure to enjore this film. At the end of the day, the film is supposed to be a bit of fun which allows you just sit and watch and not bother thinking about anything. The central characters- Harold and Kumar, a lazy twosome who can be described at 'potheads' plan a trip to Amsterdam: The capital of Mariijuana. They plan this in order for Harold to meet his girl and for Kumar to enjoy the aonders of pot smoking. The first scene of the movie is moderately amusing as we are introduced to the main character's personal traits. Trouble begins when Kumar introduces Howard to the 'smokeless' bong on the plane journey. This is mistaken for a bomb and causes the characters to be in great trouble. The pair are put into Guantanamo Bay in Cuba and the prision scenes are fairly funny although I never actually laughed. Although, just as a for instance, one of the 'funny' parts at this point in ther film is when big bob tries to make them eat his 'cockmeat' sandwich. What kind of humour is ?! After escaping from the prison they then meet a friend who keeps them for one night. In this scene there was so many naked women! It was kind of weird! But if you're a guy then I'm sure you'll love it!
There are certainly some strange features after this point of the film, such as when they meet rednecks and the KKK. It's kind of like a controversial road trip. It's seriously unbelievably un-PC as the duo party with the KKK until their masks fall off.
They seek help in Colton, Kumar's ex girlfriend's new boyfriend who is a well connected individual who promises to take care of them, instead of this he turns them into Homeland security who are looking for them. Strangely, when the couple are in the air and have been captured, they escape and end up landing in George Bushe's living room.! They then go on to smoke pot with the presedent who is hiding from Dick Cheney. The president then pardons the two of them and they rush to Vanessa's wedding to Colton where Vanessa forgives Kumar after he reads the poem he had been writing on the day he met her. they then all travel to Amsterdam and Harold finds his love Maria.
To be honest, I don't really like the film, I did watch it, it wasn't entirely unwatchable, I think this is because the actors actually aren't that bad. I did watch it and I wouldn't choose to watch it again. It wasn't the worst 'funny' movie i have ever seen, i think that this title belongs indefinately to 'Superhero Movie.' Because of this reason, if you like these kinds of comedies I think you will love it, it's easy, stupid un PC humour that some people really like. Just not me. The plot isn't complex but at least there's a fairly realistic and happy ending. The scenes featured in the film could actually be quite offensive to some people as there is lots of racist and un ploitically correct parts as metnioned before.
Film features Kal Penn, Roger Bart, Rob Corddry, Neil Patrick Harris and John Cho and is 96 minutes long. The DVD was realesed on 22nd September 2008 and is also available on Blu Ray. The extras on the DVD are pretty naff also.!
All in all just another american comedy, nothing different, nothing any more interesting. The DVD has a range of extras such as
