Wesley Snipes... a name that grabs your attention for his great acting in demolition man and blade. What a mess he has got himself into!!!
Bold names gleam out at you with Cybill Shepard, Mario Van Pebbles and Wesley Snipes but it’s a trap. Don’t be fooled by this film.
The story is based on Lucky (Wesley snipes) an ex-con who is widely known through out the criminal underworld for drug related deals and muscle jobs. Fortunately he was caught and whilst doing his time meets his future-wife who is his legal advisor, with her help he is freed early and becomes reformed with a new life happy and wildly in love. Unfortunately an accident leaves him hospitalized and when he comes to in the hospital its empty and flooded. For lucky bad luck is about to begin as it transpires hurricane Katrina had hit deserting him and fell patients, when he gets to his home the destroyed house is empty and wife is no-where to be seen. A year passes and he is a small time business street seller trying to make an honest buck selling tacky sunglasses etc. Luck’s close friend who has some dodgy links with drug dealers invites him to his birthday at a strip club, but Lucky's mate has an alternative motive and wants lucky's expertise in crime to help settle a deal of drugs with the owners. Lucky is forced into the situation and as the deal is nearly complete the police swoop, after a shoot out lucky snatches two brief cases and jumps a stripper’s car and holds her hostage for a get away.
From this situation when he try’s to use the money he has stolen to bargain is way out the stripper trips a purple die trap and ruins the money forcing them to run for the border with police putting a bounty on his head. whilst this is happening a selection of scenes on two totally different people who seem very weird and quirky break up the story with kidnapping random people for sexual gratification and seem very out of place and confusing until right at the end.
Van peebles stars as the police chief who has a personal grudge against lucky but with poor story and dialogue you never understand if he is good or bad as he has his personal police officers trying to kill lucky but on the other hand puts a bounty on lucky's head for getting him alive and in custody.
The film tries to separate three stories and splice them into one but never works and becomes a mess, the characters never seem realistic and Wesley snipes never seems happy acting his role nor convincing he is a bad ass ex-con he is tame. As for the serial killers they are awful and really out of place with extreme silly stunts all based in a barn and never make any sense until the end when they have lucky.
Van Peebles (I’m not a fan) is awful to trying to be a hard law enforcer that has a deep grudge but instead comes off as a lost and confused bit part to the whole proceedings. Extra blame for this mess of a film goes to him also for being the producer with no clue what he wants happening with the story. The film has no sense of direction and chopped up with a bunch of ideas thrown together with a see what happens vibe going on.
One good point though and only one is the stripper(Jacquelyn Quinones). not for the reasons you may think though lol she is the only character who shines through out with her ditsy yet stern attitude and pulls of turning from hostage to equal partner who falls for lucky big time.
There are seven deleted scenes and behind the scenes with van pebbles extra but doubt you'll bother as the film is bad enough.
You feel frustrated and may even switch off the film half way through it's that shoddy especially when everything happens of any interest in the first half an hour.
the film does no-one any favors to be linked to it and most people will most probably never hear of this film, if you see it in a bargain bin don't buy it there is plenty of better films out there that won't confuse and irritate with as much frustration as this film does.
I’m a big Wesley snipe’s fan and I’ll try to forget he was in this as quickly as possible.
Advantages: Scary and entertaining, full of nostalgia and a frightening score Disadvantages: Might be too old for some...or ridiculous in terms of plot
...OLD AND STILL AS SCARY AS EVER
*************************************************************
Today, I will be reviewing a genuine classic, which has been amazingly influential to many films today; like ALIEN, this is a masterful combination of science fiction and horror. Although some of its themes such as McCarthyism and paranoia are ingrained into the 1950s, the original INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS is still a legendary film, which stills hold up today and remains quite frightening. In celebration of the 50th anniversary, I'm ready to write a review for all of you to read and hopefully be interested in seeking out this gem; I wish you luck, though, because apparently it is very hard to find in the UK on dvd or vhs; your best bet is to catch it on television sometime.
The film opens up with a psychiatrist arriving at a clinic...
