Hopkin's excels again in his commanding portrayl of the charismatic and charming cannibal, luring and tantalizing his anticipant audiences with his distinictive style of evil eloquence. It is within this role he expertly personifies the chillingly complex character of many contrasts.
It is not until Officer Starling re-opens Hannibal's case, and her quest to track him down that this macabre and menacing murderer starts up the psychological roller coaster once again where a perpetual cat and mouse chase begins with both Hannibal and Starling simultaneously play both parts.Their highly charged, obsessive relationship, built on a mutual obsession and repressed attraction is central to the game and the film itself.
Starling's original interest to find him soon becomes obsession, but so too is another badly mutilated figure with a sense of revenge that has taken over his life, when a trace of Hannibal is found a race begins to find him first..
The entire film is expertly directed by Ridely Scott with the clever use of haunting locations, original props, lighting used skillfully to enhance his characters and accentuate the underlying moods of apprehension, fear, intrepidation and horror that underlie the film. Humour and horror are cleverly intermingled with brilliant affects, all the way through the magnetized audience is propelled from one grpahic scene to another, with a fast distinctive style, on an unbelievable and frightening journey.
The film does include some truly graphic scenes of bloody horror, but the humour is used particularly well to accentuate Hannibal's character and mirror the many contrasts used to depict his deeper side and the intrinsic similarities exists betwixt Hannibal and Starling, e.g.(police/criminal, good/bad, patient/doctor, persued/persuer, weak/strong, hunter/hunted,rescuer/rescued etc) this illustrates the reversing roles that these two key characters hold and highlights their synonymous states.
I found this film excellent, and even more absorbing than the first, a brilliant, original and highly entertaining film, full of suspense, shock and hidden suprises ~ the ending is not to be missed!

Good op, but like I said before, you will get more reads if you allow each of you writes more time in the top 20, instead of pushing them out. It also annoys other people when their opinions are pushed out of the top 20 by someone who 'churns' - writes lots of ops in a short space of time. O

Advantages: Excellent Plot, Good Extras, It's Hannibal the Cannibal for God's Sake Disadvantages: Julianne Moore not as good as Jodie Foster, Not as fast paces as SOTL but almost as good.
